Boosting your heart health could be as simple as listening to your favourite song, according to new research.
The research, which was presented at the European Society of Cardiology Congress 2013, found that when patients with coronary artery disease cranked up their favourite tunes, endothelial function (which is essential to vascular health) was improved.
“Listening to favourite music alone and in addition to regular exercise training improves endothelial function and therefore may be an adjunct method in the rehabilitation of patients with CAD,” lead researcher Professor Marina Deljanin Ilic said in a press release.
Wondering whether you should you listen to classical, punk or reggae for the biggest boost to your heart health?
Well, that depends on what your favourite genre is.
"There is no an ‘ideal’ music for everybody," says Deljanin Ilic. "Patients should choose music which increases positive emotions and makes them happy or relaxed."
So there you have it – if you need me I’ll be listening to Fiona Apple and Bon Iver on repeat.
What song, artist or genre always relaxes you and puts you in a good mood?
