St. Paddy’s Day has turned over a new leaf. Puns aside’while the day is more associated with drinking green lager and guys begging for a smooch with their ‘Kiss Me I’m Irish’ buttons, I’m loving the idea of a St. Patrick’s Day race. Here are a few. Good luck!
March 12, Calgary
March 12, Vancouver
This is a short and quick race (check out the route). And of course, there will be beer, at the Granville Island Brewing after party.

March 13, Burnaby, BC
This Irish race includes a half marathon, 7 mile, 5K events as well as a kids run around Burnaby lake. But if you’re not a runner, know that you can walk the races, too. Didn’t see anything about beer for this, though. Register at runningroom.com.
This run/walk, in its 11th anniversary, starts at Steam Whistle Brewing, conveniently… At the end of the race you’ll be treated to a bowl of Irish chili (?!) and beer. Events include individual and team races. Here’s the route. Register at runningroom.com.
March 12, Hamilton
Now this is a good race for beginners: A 5K downhill race with 386-foot elevation drop over the length of the course. You’re bused to the starting point and run down to the finish line. Register at runningroom.com.
So how are you celebrating St. Patrick’s Day? Are you going to stick to your healthy lifestyle or is it an Irish cheat day for you?
