I Tried The Mattress More Than 100K Canadians Are Sleeping On

What’s it like to sleep on a mattress delivered in a box? Here’s what to know about the Endy Mattress.

As a working mom with a toddler, there aren’t enough hours in the day to cross everything off my to-do list, let alone get a full night’s sleep. My daughter is a decent sleeper so I do average six hours a night. Not bad, but still below the recommended 7-9 hours per night. More important than the number of hours I sleep however is the quality of my sleep. Uninterrupted sleep would be ideal but I’ll take at least a couple of REM cycles. That’s why my mattress and pre-bed routine has become so important. So, in need of a new mattress, I checked out Endy to see if it would help me achieve more zzzs.

Why Endy?

I tend to favour Canadian brands and try to shop local as much as possible. Endy is a Canadian company (founded in 2015) and its mattresses are designed and manufactured in Canada, so it was an easy choice when it came time to upgrade my current mattress. Plus, there’s the fact that more than 100,000 Canadians are already sleeping on an Endy Mattress. The company recently hit this milestone, with more than 100,000 mattresses sold across Canada.

Endy originally launched with foam mattresses and has expanded its product offerings to include pillows, sheets, a mattress protector, a duvet and duvet cover, and most recently, The Endy Bed Frame.

Ordering + Delivery

I placed an order online for The Endy Mattress, The Endy Pillow and The Endy Sheets, all in king size. Shortly after checking out, I received a confirmation email with details of my order and a note that I would soon receive another email regarding shipment. That second email (which came just a few hours later) told me that my location was serviced by bike courier (SendIt) and that my Endy Mattress and Endy Pillows would arrive via bike courier. My Endy Sheets were to be delivered by FedEx.

Someone from SendIt followed up by phone call to arrange a delivery time and my items arrived less than 48 hours after I had placed the order. (Not in need of a new mattress? Check out more sleep-inducing products that actually work.)

Unboxing

The Endy Mattress is delivered in a rectangular box with instructions on the outside regarding where you should open. My husband and I weren’t paying attention and opened the box at one end making the process a little harder than it needed to be. The mattress is rolled up and vacuum-sealed in plastic (that’s how they’re able to fit a mattress in a box) so we unrolled it and cut where instructed to release. In less than a minute the mattress rebounded to full size.

The Mattress

The Endy Mattress is created using three unique foam layers. The top layer focuses on comfort and has a unique Open Air Cell Foam. These air cells act as shock absorbers to reduce motion transfer so you don’t wake up as your partner changes positions throughout the night. The middle foam layer focuses on support and acts as a transition layer to the high-density bottom foam layer.

Unlike traditional memory foam, the Endy Mattress remains temperature neutral so it maintains its firmness throughout all seasons. The price ranges from $675 for a Twin to $950 for a King or California King.

No Risk Trial

Since many people are still new to this buy-before-you-try online purchase model (especially for something like a mattress), Endy has a 100 night trial period (similar to other mattress-in-a-box companies). If you’re not happy with the mattress, you can return for a full refund within that timeframe. Returns are then donated to registered charities whenever possible.

Endy has also introduced a mattress showroom at Urban Barn locations across Canada, as well as additional retail partners, so there are still opportunities to check out the product in-store before you order. (Find a showroom near you here.)

Review

One of the main reasons my husband and I got a new mattress was to upgrade to a king from a queen. Our toddler often ends up in our bed and a queen just isn’t enough room for the three of us to comfortably sleep. We couldn’t be happier with the new size. Our daughter can lie horizontal across the bed and there’s still enough room for my husband and I to sleep, without the risk of a foot in the face. But kids aren’t the only reason you may of had a sleepless night

The other reason we were ready to switch from our current mattress was the motion transfer. Our pillow-top was super comfortable but after just six years, it was already sagging in certain areas. I could also feel every toss and turn my husband did.

So, I was intrigued when Endy advertised that its mattresses are designed to dramatically reduce motion transfer. And once we unboxed the mattress, this was actually the first thing I noticed. We even put the Endy Mattress to the test with our own experiment. We set-up a couple of our daughter’s Paw Patrol figurines and had her jump on the bed. Neither tipped over!

I’d definitely recommend for couples and parents of young children looking for a mattress that reduces motion transfer. If you’re looking for a softer mattress, this one isn’t for you, but anyone who prefers a medium-firm to firm mattress will sleep soundly.
