Ovarian cancer is a major killer’2,300 new cases are found in Canadian women each year, according to Ovarian Cancer Canada (OCC), and 1,600 Canadian women die of the disease annually’and it isn’t easily detected.

To help raise funds for research on better detection and treatment, Electrolux has partnered with OCC to create a virtual Garden of Hope. Visit gardenofhope.ca to plant a virtual sunflower and not only will Electrolux donate $1 to OCC, you’ll be entered to win an Electrolux Turquoise Sky Laundry Pair. (Electrolux will contribute up to $10,000 from this program, as part of its total fundraising goal of $200,000 by 2010 for OCC.)

Electrolux has also planted a real garden of hope to complement the virtual one: pictured is the garden in front of Electrolux’s offices in Mississauga, Ont. (Pictured, from left: Sue Stevenson, Vice-President, Electrolux Canada; Elisabeth Ross, Chief Executive Officer, Ovarian Cancer Canada; Colleen O’Neill, ovarian cancer survivor.) And they’ll be participating in the Winners Walk of Hope, an annual event to raise awareness of ovarian cancer, taking place this year on September 13.
