Researchers in California tested the blood of 29 people after each received a 45-minute Swedish massage. (Now that’s my kind of study! )They found that the massages reduced levels of stress-causing hormones. They also found decreased levels of proteins released by the immune system when the body is under attack.

So what does this mean in terms of treatment? Researchers say that massage could help people with conditions in which the body’s immune system is attacking itself, such as inflammatory or autoimmune diseases, reports the CBC.
