News: Dentist shows cleavage to calm her patients

If your dentist showed a little skin while he or she cleaned your teeth, do you think you’d be more relaxed during the experience? It seems to be working for a dentist in Munich, who shows her cleavage to help patients get over their fear of oral care. Dr. Marie-Catherine Klarkowski and her staff wear low-cut dirndls around the office to distract patients from pain and anxiety, reports the British Metro news. The dentist says that seeing cleavage “gets patients narcotised and distracted from the pain rather quickly.” And apparently, this uniform is great for business’the practice has grown a third since the staff started wearing the outfits. Needless to say, the patients are all men.

Now, I have a dentist appointment this afternoon and I gotta tell ya, if my male oral health care professional showed up in lederhosen, I’d be out the door faster than he could say “yo-de-lay-hee-hoo.” No matter how good looking he may be.

I’m all for using unconventional methods if they help make the experience of going to the dentist more comfortable, but this seems over the top. Undoubtedly, Dr. Klarkowski went through many years of schooling to become a dentist and now she’s treating patients looking like a pin-up-calendar Heidi. Should a female medical professional use her sex appeal to comfort her patients, or does it just undermine her professionalism?
