I love chocolate, and definitely crave it at certain times, but I try not to eat it too often for fear it’ll go straight to my thighs.

Now I may just have reason to incorporate it regularly into my diet (YAY!). A study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine has found that people who eat chocolate frequently tend to have a lower body mass index, reports BBC News.

In the study of about 1,000 U.S. men and women, those who ate chocolate a few times a week were, on average, slimmer than occasional chocolate eaters.

While chocolate is high in calories (hence my aversion to eating it daily), scientists suggest that its antioxidant properties may help boost metabolism.

Eating chocolate has also been found to have positive effects for your heart, blood pressure and insulin sensitivity. Plus, who doesn’t feel a little happier after indulging in a piece of melt-in-your-mouth chocolate?

How much do you love chocolate? Could you go a year without it?
