My day usually begins with some sort of latte ‘ the caffeine and sugar give me a much needed energy boost. This daily habit of mine can get expensive, but it’s not just the cost that’s adding up, the calories from sugar are as well.

And I’m likely not the only one consuming excess calories in liquid form. According to a new report from Statistics Canada, Canadians get 21 percent of their daily calories from sugar, with beverages being one of the top sources of sugar.

CBC.ca reports that Canadians consume an average of 110 grams of sugar a day. That’s the equivalent of 26 teaspoons!
