Skin cancer may be scary, but it’s also preventable. We already know the main culprit is UV rays from the sun, so avoiding overexposure is the best way to protect yourself.

Unfortunately, not everyone heeds that warning. According to Health Canada, skin cancer has been increasing in Canada at a fairly constant rate over the past 30 years.

Looks like Canadians don’t want to give up our precious time outside during our too-short summers.

Luckily, there’s another option (besides sunscreen) to keep your face protected from the sun’s harsh rays: Hats.

Whether you want to go for a chic and polished look à la Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, or try a 1920s flapper-inspired cloche hat, make sure the brim is at least three inches’as recommended by the Canadian Dermatology Association.

Keep your face shaded (and ensure it doesn’t end up looking like this) with these six options.
