Eat good food, raise money for breast cancer

Eat to the Beat is an annual culinary fundraiser that takes place in Toronto to benefit Willow Breast Cancer Support Canada. Unlike many fundraisers, it’s not a sit-down dinner, but a walk-through event where you can meet some of the country’s finest female chefs (and try the treats they’ve prepared), sample local wines and beers, listen to live music and take part in a raffle and silent auction. This year’s event takes place on Tuesday, September 23 and tickets are $150 (visit eattothebeat.ca for details).

Willow provides peer support and information to all Canadians affected by breast cancer, including patients and their loved ones, coworkers and caregivers. When you contact them (at 1-888-778-3100, [email protected] or online at willow.org), you’ll be speaking with someone with experience—a breast cancer survivor. And with 90% of Eat to the Beat proceeds going directly to programs and services at Willow, you can be sure your contributions are going straight to a good cause.

Not in Toronto? You can help Willow by donating directly, or by picking up a copy of the cookbook Eat to the Beat: A Celebration of Life and Food. You can purchase the cookbook directly from Willow for $15—a limited number of copies are available.

I’ll be attending Eat to the Beat this year with associate editor Lindsay Borthwick—check back at the end of the month to see our photos from the event.
