Fashion designer makeup lines are a trend, from Tom Ford’s lipsticks ($52 a pop!) to Burberry creative head Christopher Bailey’s Burberry Beauty. Veteran Canadian fashion designer (and Project Runway Canada mentor) Brian Bailey has gotten into the makeup game too. What inspired him to dip his hand in cosmetics? He’s seen the confidence that his clothing’from sportswear to evening clothes’can bring to women, and he equally believes in the empowerment of makeup, he told me. So, working with a celebrity makeup artist and a cosmetics developer, he created a tailored clutch of neutrals for a five-minute makeup that he sells on The Shopping Channel. ‘If I can understand it, anyone can understand it,’ he says.

Who did he have in mind? ‘Women who are afraid of makeup’ and have given up on it; and those who want a super-natural, clean, healthy glow look (‘this isn’t about coating the face,” he says). The makeup is matte; formulas do not contain parabens, mica, or fragrance, and they’re mineral-based.

Bailey Cosmetics 5 Easy Pieces consists of foundation duo, shown in photo (available in fair, medium, tan, golden, warmer and deep); blush duo; eyeshadow duo; lip gloss; and eyebrow pencil. Throw the kit and caboodle in your bag, or your suitcase. It will be there for you, and take you places, like a good Brian Bailey suit. $129
