How to Marie Kondo, Based on Your Zodiac Sign

Bring joy into your home by getting the clutter out in a way that suits your sign.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Aries is always on the hunt for the next hurdle to climb and the next venture to tackle. This sign loves to be active both physically and mentally. “They live a fast-paced life, and spending time cleaning the house isn’t a priority for them,” says Olga Verk, astrology expert of rams. “At the same time, clutter isn’t the biggest issue for Aires because they simply don’t have time to hoard and cry over sentimental items.” The biggest problem for Aries is neglecting their living space entirely. This sign should arrange their home so that they have specific places to drop things off when they’re on the go. The keyword here is “specific,” which means no “anything” drawers. Taurus (April 20-May 20)

This is one of the most difficult signs of the zodiac when it comes to maintaining a clear and organized space. Taurus loves stuff; they tend to be collectors, so their homes can quickly become overrun with objects and luxury items. Astrologer, author, and feng shui specialist Donna Stellhorn advises, “When you have collections of things, consider grouping items in threes to make it visually appealing. Keep the most valuable three items and sell off the pieces you’re not so attached to.”

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Next to Taurus, Gemini is the most prone to having clutter in their living space. “They’re so curious about everything, and want to try out as many things as possible,” Verk assesses. You may often find remains of most random hobbies at their house: art supplies, books on random subjects, a collection of DVDs, etc. A Gemini will never give up their curiosities, so instead, Stellhorn advises that the best way to keep organized is to go digital. “Scan photos, cards, and letters so you can hang on to the memories without the paper clutter,” she says. Cancer (June 21-July 22)

While Gemini might like to hang onto objects that spark interest, Cancer takes mementos to another level. Cancer is more sentimental and sensitive, so when they keep items, it’s because it has a lot of emotional value to them. “Out of all the signs, Cancer is the one who will benefit from Marie Kondos rule of keeping only the items that spark joy,” Verk says. “Getting rid of things in their home that are annoying is important, so the energy doesn’t rub off on them.” Cancer needs to take the time to go through all of their items as Marie Kondo does on her Netflix series, Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, and choose to keep only the items that bring them the most happiness.

Leo (July 23-August 22)

The home of a Leo is a place to show off their status and accomplishments, both Stellhorn and Verk agree. This doesn’t necessarily mean they’re arrogant, but that they’re proud of where they’ve been and how far they’ve come. Leo just has to make sure that special pictures, trophies, diplomas, etc., all have their own home. Framing things or investing in a memorabilia case would be wise for lions.

Virgo (August 23-September 22)

Virgos are meticulous; however, that doesn’t necessarily mean their homes are always immaculate (although some are). When Virgo decides to clean, it becomes a momentary obsession to get everything just right. The trick for Virgo is to find some balance. Don’t clean so much that your place has zero personality, but keep a regular cleaning schedule (because everyone knows you love schedules, Virgo) so that it doesn’t pile up into one giant project. Make yourself a chore list, put it on the calendar, and do what you do best: organize. FYI, these are the best natural cleaning products.

Libra (September 23-October 22)

Libra’s focus is always on beauty, says Verk. While there’s nothing wrong with making your home nice to look at, she does caution, though, not to be too frivolous. “Sometimes, a Libra can make their living space look so beautiful, it’s not functional. Their problem area might be having too much art or decorations.” So if you want to buy another knickknack for your home, Libra, make sure you have a place to put it first.

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

Scorpios feel emotions very intensely and their home environments are reflective of that. If a Scorpio doesn’t want something anymore, they most likely don’t need to be told twice to get rid of it. However, any kind of change must be meaningful to a Scorpio. “If something doesn’t bring joy,” Verk says, “they should find the most satisfying way to destroy it, or give it a unique new life, to feel fully done with the things they’re letting go.”

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)

“You may have already known the joy of living out of a backpack,” Stellhorn says to those under this sign. The wandering Sagittarius may know what it’s like to travel light, but that doesn’t mean that when they get home they should continue to live out of their bags. At the same time, they shouldn’t feel too tied down, either. Stellhorn recommends a compromise. “Look for furniture that does double duty,” she says, “like a sofa that converts to a bed or a coffee table that raises up to be a dining room table.”

Capricorn (December 22-January 19)

Capricorn is the most organized and pragmatic of all the zodiac signs. “They need each item to serve a purpose,” Verk says, “and they’re pretty good at building things themselves or coming up with a sophisticated organizational system for their belongings.” The one downside, though, is that Capricorn can sometimes be too rigid. Every space—especially a living space—needs to have a positive flow of energy. Capricorn may not need to worry about clutter, but definitely be mindful of comfort and how other people feel in your home. Plus, find out what your zodiac sign says about your health.

Aquarius (January 20-February 18)

Another sign that loves to adventure is Aquarius; Aquarians are always finding something new to fascinate them or creating new projects. However, their overflow of imagination and intelligence might lead to chaos. “Your place can be like a colourful museum of your travels and adventures,” Stellhorn. “If you have lots of things, use your vertical space as much as possible. Hang things up. Create an art gallery on your walls.” Instead of leaving your treasures and gadgets just anywhere, use your sense of creativity to turn a mess into a marvel.

Pisces (February 19-March 20)

“As a combination of sentimentality and creative energy, you can collect a lot of stuff,” Stellhorn says to Pisces. Because of this, it can be very hard for Pisces to declutter because they don’t want to let things go—even if they’re useless. Start with the small things and work your way up. This is where you’ll really need to channel your inner Marie Kondo and ask, “Does this really bring me joy?” Stellhorn also advises that you take items you’re on the fence about and put them in a box with a certain date on it.

But if you just can’t come to terms with letting items go, learn how to declutter your home without throwing anything away.
