OK, show of hands: How many of you (even secretly) aspire to lose weight this year? I know my hand is high up in the air right now. Well, a woman from New Jersey is working toward the opposite goal. Donna Simpson, 42, aspires to become the fattest woman in the world by reaching 1,000 lbs in two years, reports the Daily Mail UK. According to the article, Simpson, who already weighs 600 pounds, says she loves being large and says she’s healthy despite the fact that she requires a scooter to move around. She says her husband loves her large size, too, and is supportive of her goal to consume up to 12,000 calories a day.

Undoubtedly, this is reported as one of those shocking weird-news stories meant to inspire head-shakes ’tisk-tisks.’ But is this a tale about a strange woman’s "out there" behaviour or is it really a story about someone suffering an eating disorder not unlike anorexia? What do you think? Is eating too much food to transform your body and defy society’s image of thin beauty the same problem as restricting your diet in order to conform to it?
