We already know that exercise provides a mood boost – but a new review shows that it can actually provide some benefits to people who are suffering from depression as well.

The review, published in The Cochrane Library, looked at the results of 39 different trials that studied people suffering from depression.

While the study’s authors found some evidence that exercise is beneficial, they also recommend that more large-scale studies should be conducted in order to know for sure.

‘Our review suggested that exercise might have a moderate effect on depression,’ one of the study’s authors, Gillian Mead, said in a press release.
