I’m really, really picky about toothpaste. For one thing, I have very specific preferences about mint: I like peppermint, but hate spearmint. (I know, I’m strange.) For another, I’m pretty back-to-basics about my toothpaste: I want it to clean my teeth, with some fluoride to prevent cavities, and that’s it. (I’m even sensitive to some ingredients—I’ve had dry, flaky lips before as a reaction to certain toothpastes.)

For a long time, I’ve been using kids’ toothpaste: fruity flavour, simple ingredients. But I’ve been feeling the need to switch to something a little more grown-up, which is why I was thrilled to discover that Kiss My Face has a pepperminty pick that includes fluoride (it retails for $8.99).

The strong flavour took me a few days to get used to—they use peppermint oil for a very natural taste—but now that I’ve been using it for a few weeks, I don’t miss Berry Blast at all. It gets my teeth super clean without any irritation and even claims to whiten (but without the somewhat scary ingredients some other whitening products contain).

And if you prefer to steer clear of fluoride, Kiss My Face has fluoride-free picks to choose from.
