In terms of life’s small pleasures, a perfect ripe peach is near the top of my list. How can you go wrong with baskets full of this delicious fruit’now at its peak? It’s so easy to add one or two to a lunch bag or tuck a few into a picnic hamper for the beach or lake.

Peaches, along with their biological cousins’nectarines, apricots and plums’are also packed full of vitamin C, antioxidants and fibre (to learn more about what these stone fruits can do for your health, see ‘Fresh & Juicy’ in the September issue of Best Health’on newsstands now). Plus there are lots of ideas for adding them to almost any meal. Got a basket ripening on the counter? Try some of Our best healthy peach recipes.

My favourite fruit combo at the moment? Peaches plus blueberries in everything from a taste-of-summer smoothie at the start of the day (plus low-fat yogurt, and a little ground flax seed) to a non-cook (glazed) pie for dessert with dinner. It’s also a colourful combo that works in crisps, tossed with a green salad or on top of cereal.
