Summer hair: How to get beachy waves
Get sexy beach hair in time for summer with these tips for prepping, styling and protecting your hair in the heat
‘Beachy hair’ is what Pantene consulting stylist Justin German refers to as ‘the new scrunch’it’s controlled but messy.’ He recommends working with your own natural texture or using texturizing spray to create this carefree look.
German’s easy how-to: Starting with wet hair, apply a conditioning mousse. Then, spritz with a texturizer (if needed) and twist hair into sections as you blow-dry, to help craft those loose waves.
If your hair tends to be on the frizzy side in the summer, try using a diffuser, or smooth it with styling oil.
Bumble and Bumble Surf Foam Wash Shampoo ($28) and Crème Rinse Conditioner ($30) give ‘buoyant body and soft seabreezy texture’ (each 250 mL). The Wet Brush‘s flexible bristles detangle hair with ease ($17).
Kérastase Spray à Porter Tousled Effect Spray uses texturizing ingredient magnesium sulfate to give soft, supple waves without stickiness ($36, 150 mL). For a matte-textured, ‘piecey’ look, try Schwarzkopf Göt2b Beach Trippin’ salt-infusion Waving Spray ($8, 200 mL). A creamy moisturizing mousse, Pantene Pro-V Silky Moisture Whip gives flexible hold with a smooth finish and protects from heat damage ($6, 150 g).
Smooth argan-oil-based Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Moroccan Sleek Oil Treatment over dry ends after styling to keep them frizz-free ($7, 111 mL).
Coloured hair? Before styling, apply Dove Damage Solutions Colour Care Leave-On Conditioner. It contains a UV complex to prevent fading ($10, 118 mL).
