These High-Protein Caramelized Pears Are Delicious Served With Vanilla Ice Cream

A simple caramel sauce transforms ordinary pears into a magnificent dessert.

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Simple Sauce: Melt butter in a small pan over medium heat. Whisk in brown sugar until butter is melted. Remove from heat and whisk in Frangelico until smooth.
  3. Peel pears and slice in half vertically. Use a paring knife and/or melon baller to remove the stems and cores. Place, cut side up, in an 8- x 8-inch baking dish. Spoon butter mixture over each pear. Split vanilla bean (if using) in half lengthwise and place in pan. Bake for 30 minutes or until sauce is bubbly and pears are tender. Let cool slightly but serve warm with simple sauce and vanilla ice cream.
