1. Swap your afternoon coffee with a super special latte

Instead of going for your midday cup of joe, opt for a superfood latte that offers health benefits. For an energy boost, go with a matcha latte. It’ll give you a crash-free caffeine hit and 100 times the antioxidants of green tea. If you just hit a spin class, the beetroot latte aids in muscle recovery and has a hit of iron, too. Need a mood-boost? Reach for a turmeric latte, which may help with depression.

2. Swap your hamburger bun for an unbun

What can you wrap a burger in that’s low-carb, gluten-free, grain-free and plant-based? Hint: It’s not lettuce. If you’re trying to cut carbs, keep your eyes peeled for Unbun buns, which are made with real ingredients, such as almond flour and apple cider vinegar. (Tip: Try them with our infamous veggie burgers.)

3. Swap your plain granola for a nuttier version

Adding a few almonds to your smoothie every day could help stave off long-term weight gain. Researchers conducted a long-term study that showed that upping your nut consumption by half a serving a day is linked to less weight gain and a lower risk of obesity. The reason is unclear, but they speculate that this might be due to the unique way that fibre binds to fat in the gut and makes you feel full longer.

4. Keep on eating avocados

One avocado a day could keep the doctor away. According to a new study from Penn State University, eating this fatty fruit is associated with lower levels of “bad” cholesterol. Looks like it’s guac o’clock—and you’ll need our tequila guacamole recipe for that.

Now that you’ve learned about the healthy food swaps to make right now, learn about the healthy flours to bake with this year.
