Earlier this week, I attended the Toronto show of Jillian Michaels’ ‘Maximize Your Life’ tour. It was the final stop on the tour and I was live-tweeting during the event. Here’s some of her best advice from the evening:

“Destiny is a game of choice. Not chance.”

“I don’t hope, wish or wonder if you can, I know you can.”

“Calories are like dollars, you have to be mindful of where you spend them.”

“It’s amazing how much trust we put in people other than ourself. Turn on your bullcrap meter.”

“If you make the better choice more often than the bad choice, you’re going to win.”

“Use dumbbells, barbells, kettlebells, tubing, etc. But do not go to the gym, find a comfy machine and settle in.”

“If you have a ‘why’ to live for, you can tolerate any ‘how.'”

“You want to talk responsibility? Your obligation is to be your best self.”

“Take inventory of your feelings throughout your day. What are you doing and how does it make you feel?”

“If you’re not failing, you’re not working hard enough. The key is to not make the same mistake twice.”

“The way you choose to respond to unfair and imperfect things in life is what makes all the difference.”

On why she’s so hard on her Biggest Loser contestants in the first few weeks: “If I make you uncomfortable where you are, it’s motivation to want to move and change.”

On the secret to weight-loss: “Eat less, move more”
