The way we shop has changed, and that includes how we shop for a mattress. Thanks to innovative mattress-in-a-box brands like Endy, it’s easier than ever to order the best mattress for your sleep needs.

Endy’s convenience and price (all their mattresses are under $1,000 CAD) are definite selling points, but does it provide the same quality comfort as a traditional mattress brand? With it being one of the trendier and top rated mattresses on the market we wanted to put it to the ultimate test and see how it truly compares to a more historic and expensive model, such as the Tempur-Pedic.

Both mattress brands promise a restful sleep and offer at-home trials for up to 100 days to ensure customer satisfaction, so we put them to the test. I slept on the Endy and Tempur-Pedic mattresses, and reviewed them for delivery, unboxing, price, and of course, comfort. Here’s what I thought:

Endy

Proudly Canadian-made, Endy is Canada’s leading online mattress brand. Since launching in 2015, Endy has sold more than 300,000 mattresses across the country. The reviews are impressive, too, with an average rating of 4.9/5 stars on more than 27,000 customer reviews.

The Mattress:

The Endy Mattress is a unique three-layer foam mattress that’s undergone extensive lab testing to ensure maximum comfort. The base layer is a high-density foundational layer that provides structural support for the upper layers. The middle, or transition layer, is key for anyone with a restless sleeping partner. Its transitional foam provides a gradual transfer of energy to ensure zero motion transfer. Finally, the top layer features Endy Comfort Foam. This proprietary foam is made with open air cell technology, allowing for better airflow than traditional memory foam. In short, it moves heat away from the body, so your sleep is guaranteed to be cool and comfortable.

Plus, the Endy Mattress has a micro-quilted top cover that is soft, breathable, and most importantly, removable and machine washable!

Adding to its credibility, the Endy Mattress has earned several awards over the years, including BrandSpark Most Trusted Brand 2022: Mattress-in-a-Box, Product of the Year Canada 2020: Mattress-in-a-Box, and Techweek’s Top 100 Innovator Award: 2016. Endy was also the first Canadian mattress brand to achieve GREENGUARD Gold Certification, which means the entire mattress meets the strictest international standards for emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Endy mattress foams are also certified through the CertiPUR-US® program for their content, emissions, and durability.

Shipping & Delivery:

Endy offers a quick and easy-to-navigate online shopping experience that ships free across Canada, with no minimum spend. After ordering, the mattress shipped and arrived within three days and was conveniently delivered to my door in a box. The Endy Mattress arrived in a compact, rectangular box roughly the size of a hockey bag. Thanks to the cardboard handles on the side of the box, it was very easy to get up the stairs and maneuver around corners into the bedroom.

Unboxing:

There are instructions on the outside of the box regarding where and how to open it. Inside, the mattress is rolled up and vacuum sealed. Once I unrolled it and cut the packaging open to release it, the mattress expanded to full size within a minute. The entire setup was seamless and took just a few minutes to set up.

Sleep Experience:

I’d describe the Endy Mattress as medium-firm. It’s on the firmer side but with just the right amount of give for me to comfortably settle and relax into the mattress. I usually sleep on my side and I felt well-supported around my hips and shoulders. I also noticed that the mattress had great airflow, I stayed cool and comfortable throughout the night, which is so important, especially in the summer months.

I’m a light sleeper, and my partner moves around a lot in the night, so the Endy Mattress earned big points for reducing motion transfer. On the first night, I immediately noticed a lot less movement on my side of the bed as my partner settled into bed. We also have a five-year-old daughter who occasionally climbs into our bed in the middle of the night so any mattress that helps minimize disruptions earns a gold star from us.

Tempur-Pedic Mattress

Tempur-Pedic International, Inc., now part of Tempur Sealy International, manufactures and distributes mattresses and pillows made from viscoelastic foam, which is a blend of polyurethane foam also known as memory foam. Tempur-Pedic mattresses are made in the U.S., in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Duffield, Virginia.

The Mattress:

The Tempur-Pedic mattress is made in the U.S. from TEMPUR material. Composed of millions of moveable cells, this material is designed to cushion and support your body. It’s sensitive to body temperature and weight, so it conforms to your body contours and evenly distributes your body weight. Plus, the mattress cover has an antimicrobial treatment to keep dust mites away, which is also removable and machine washable. The mattress won Product of the Year Canada 2021 in the Mattress & Bed category (in a survey of 4,000 people by Kantar).

Shipping & Delivery:

The Tempur-Pedic mattress is sold at various retailers across Canada and does not currently have its own eCommerce platform. When placing the order, I was able to choose a scheduled delivery date, however, the earliest delivery date available was 4 weeks from the day I ordered.

On the day of delivery, a representative called in the morning to confirm I would be home to sign for it.

Unboxing:

Like The Endy Mattress, the Tempur-Pedic mattress also arrived in a box, however this mattress ships as full size, so the box was much larger and was the size of the actual mattress. The delivery team brought it inside my home and upstairs to the bedroom, which was helpful because otherwise, it would have been difficult for the average person (or two) to move.

Sleep Experience:

My partner and I slept on the Tempur-Pedic mattress and both found it to be much softer than The Endy Mattress. The foam of the mattress felt like it conformed around my body for support, but my body sunk into the foam more than I would have liked. It was almost hard to get out of bed, but not in a good way. Since memory foam is activated by body heat, I found the mattress to hold heat more than the Endy as well.

The Verdict: Endy vs. Tempur-Pedic

The Endy Mattress came out on top for us and is the one we’ll be sticking with, and sleeping on, from now on. As parents to a young child, sleep is precious and the ease with which we’ve been able to relax into the mattress and feel comfortably supported has gone a long way in ensuring a good night’s sleep.

Since we’ve been sleeping on the Endy, there have even been a few nights when we haven’t noticed that our daughter has climbed into our bed until we woke up in the morning. As any parent knows, that uninterrupted sleep is a dream come true!
