Celebrity fitness trainer Tracy Anderson (she’s friends with Gwyneth Paltrow!) was recently in Toronto to treat a few members of the media to a special workout class hosted by Samsung. Tracy led us through an intense 35-minute workout based on the Tracy Anderson Method. Everyone was sweating’ and not just because the room was heated (which Tracy says helps our brain focus more on the muscles that are tight and locked up). Tracy’s workout consisted of bodyweight exercises and the use of light hand weights, which zeroed in on those smaller muscles that we don’t use as often. Note: Light hand weights were plenty. My arms were limp after the first 10 minutes!

During the class we wore the Samsung Gear Fit (pictured below). The fitness tracker is worn on the wrist and has a built in heart rate sensor, a pedometer and a stopwatch. We checked our heart rate post-workout and yes, the Tracy Anderson Method workout is definitely heart-pumping. Keep reading for Tracy’s fitness tips and workout playlist.

Q: What’s your best advice for someone looking to tone up a little more for summer?

A: “You have to make sure you’re working out year-round and being real with yourself. It’s not about three days a week, it’s about six days a week. If you’re already working out six days a week and you’re not quite where you want to be in terms of results, it needs to be six days a week for an hour and a half instead on an hour. Or if you’re doing thirty minutes, you need to bump it up to an hour.”

Q: What’s the biggest fitness mistake most people are making?

A: “Thinking that there’s a quick fix and that it takes less focus than it does. You need to put in the time.”
