December 5: Tune in to hunger
"Tune in to your hunger and satiety cues," says Sue Mah. During the holidays it’s easy to go overboard with food and drinks. Challenge yourself to stop eating when you feel about 80 percent full rather than when you feel stuffed.
Why 80 percent? For one thing, your brain may not have caught up with your stomach's signals while you're still eating—so you could be fuller than you feel you are. And by learning to enjoy being satisfied rather than overly full, you'll train yourself to avoid overeating. Just think—by skipping those last few bites of a meal, you could easily save 100 calories or more, which in the long term could help with weight loss.
