desert = an arid landscape, the majority of which is covered by sand.
dessert = the last course of a meal

Although fruit is better than sugar products for desert, it should be eaten alone so that it may be digested properly. So better to skip the desert completely after a meal! A brisk walk after a meal is much better for you!

I just wanted to comment on the finish on desert post....it is one of the worst ways to finish a meal actually. Firstly because we digest fruit the fastest out of all foods (within 20 min) when we eat a piece of fruit on top of a large meal it actually ends up fermenting on top of your meal. If you want to wait 2 hours until your food has digested that is fine, but eating fruit at the end of a meal is actually not going to do anything for weight loss but actually add to the toxins in your body, Everyone should read the beauty detox solution by kimberly snyder!

Must we use the word "diet" which suggests something other than just meals. The Canada Food Guide offers the best advice - smaller portions, half the plate of cooked veggies, balanced meals with smaller bits of protein.

REALLY? Skipping dessert or having fruit is a dietary trick you probably haven't tried? Do you live in a cave?

In the digestion of food, I believe fruit needs to be eaten first since it digests differentlt in the GI track. If eaten last, slow movement will cause it to begin to ferment and cause bloating, gas etc. Please check this out carefully as we know what happens to fruit as it ages on a counter. Does that happen in our digestive system. Sometimes what we are led to believe is not necessarily the case.
