In many ways, running is the perfect sport. You can do it straight out your front door, no travel time required. You can do it in a group or on your own, depending on your mood and availability. You can do it as much or as little as you like, with no consideration other than time. And it's simple to set personal goals and measure your progress.

But what kinds of goals should you set, and how can you get there faster? Follow these tips to run longer, faster or just more often — without getting hurt.

All very good advice . But to run faster . I would recommend some track workouts repeats of a 440 or 220 yards will help you with the longer distances and improve running efficiently . Also take a look at your gait ( leg turn over ) and stride ) many runner don't even notice there giat . I slight change in gait can mean seconds or minutes in a longer event. I also would try doing some open field , grass running to build strength in the legs and feet. XC races are great for this. Training on hills is very good too 100 meter or 200 meter hills will do wonders for you . In a race. Do these hills in the spring. The year should be divided up into different kinds of running, depending on what you are training for.
