Reader letters: November/December 2008
Find out what readers had to say in letters from the November/December issue of Best Health Magazine

I received the October issue as a gift from a friend and loved it! The articles were to the point and covered a variety of topics of interest. I especially enjoyed “Your Best Advice” (page 8), where Canadian women share their secrets on everything from exercising to skin care to getting more organized.
Shawna Ciccarelli, Newmarket, Ont.
I found October’s article on the women climbing Mount Kilimanjaro (“I Have A Crazy Idea...” page 124) both inspiring and motivating. These women stepped outside their daily routines and succeeded in taking on an incredible personal challenge, helped a cause and made friendships that will last a lifetime. Congratulations to them.

“Ribbons of Hope” in the October issue (page 84) was very timely. Even though there are still too many new cases of breast cancer, fewer people are dying. In my days of living through the fear, I could only talk about my feelings to those close to me. People now understand more about cancer and are not afraid to talk about it in a positive way. We also see the need for providing funds to continue making great strides in treating breast cancer. Now we must believe we’ll see the same strides in other cancers. Hope is what it is all about.
Betty Burns, Moncton, N.B.
This fabulous magazine is a cover-to-cover delight: The articles are just the right length, the information is excellent and the presentation is awesome.

I really enjoyed “Rebuilding Love” (Summer, page 130). Dave Irwin’s sister was my neighbour, and my driveway was the closest “turn-around point” when he was learning to walk again. Lynne became my hero after I saw how she and Dave interacted in social settings, with Lynne as his “memory.” They are such inspirations to me!
Lynnette Wooten-Monson, Priddis, Alta.
A magazine has to fulfill three requirements for me to like it. It has to: (1) focus on realistic goals—no “I lost 50 pounds in 2 weeks!”; (2) concentrate more on health than on fashion; and (3) be Canadian. Best Health has fulfilled all three. I’m even more pleased to see Newfoundland included in your articles: Your mention of the Farmers’ Market in St. John’s made my day (“Market Fresh,” Summer, page 106). We seem to be overlooked in other Canadian magazines.
Shannon Pardy, Garnish, Nfld.
I’ve been tempted to try some potentially dangerous diet regimens—until I came upon Best Health, with its emphasis on well-being. Thanks for contributing to my change of lifestyle!

Thanks, Best Health, for the opportunity to reach so many smokers (and their loved ones) by having me talk to Canadian women recently via your website’s forum. The response from your readers to my article (“How I Quit Smoking,” Premiere, page 98) extolling the virtues of Allen Carr’s Easy Way to Stop Smoking really touched my heart. Many smokers have a hard time asking for help but appear to appreciate advice from someone who has been there. I felt personally responsible for helping them quit, and would love to know from other readers if hearing about my experiences, both on your pages and in your web forums, helped.

GREAT SUPPORT! Thanks for the article on bras and bra-fitting in your September issue (“Tech Support,” page 53). With “pointers” in hand, I went shopping. I found I have been wearing the right size, but took your advice and tried bras with underwire again. They really have improved! I now own three new bras that fit right and are comfortable.

Best Health inspires me to continue pursuing the many things I enjoy in life, especially my overall physical and mental health. It also encourages me to take even better care of myself, and to more carefully consider what I put into my body and the impact I have on our planet. I especially enjoyed your article about bras. Finally, a practical, well-researched and entertaining piece about how to take care of our boobs!
Alida Abbott, Kitchener, Ont.
I love Best Health’s covers. The women always look bright, attractive and healthy. Also, your “Tech Support” article gives a very good explanation of how to find the right bra. Bras should feel like a second skin, but sometimes, depending on the size of one’s breasts, the selection is so limited. Looking forward to the next issue.
