LOL!!!! Im sorry to say my friend but your confused with reality and theres no way in hell that your BFP (Body Fat Percentage) is 8%. Your a fat ass with a BFP of at least 25% and just wont admit it. Your one of those out of shape fat guys that walk around in the gym with tight pants and shirts and think there cut. LOLOLOL Get with reality
What does NaN stand for
WTF????? They give you a BMI calculator and no chart to relate to!!!!!!!! wow!
Arrgghhh ..gotta say it ..a pound is a pound whether it is muscle or fat. Live life moderately, exercise regularly and BMI is irrelevant
Really good conversation....I remember once being measured for fat using calipers (sp?). Does anyone know another way that can be done at home - other than the mirror LOL ?
wow...BMI IS NOT BODY FAT PERCENTAGE! It has nothing to do with the amount of fat or muscle on your body, your bodytype, or level of fitness. It is just a simple calculation to see what (broad, general) category you fall into: underweight, normal, overweight, obese, morbidly obese. Your BMI will go down if you lose weight, and up if you gain weight (even if you are gaining muscle and losing fat) If you want a better measurement, get a body fat percentage reading. Otherwise, you can probably guess your BMI by looking in the mirror. The person who commented below me claims to be a bodybuilder...what kind of bodybuilder would mistake their BMI for their BF%?????!!!
This BMI calculator is not accurate at all.. I'm 5'10 and weigh 240 and it said I'm at 34% body fat :S - which is not true I'm a bodybuilder and I'm only at 8% body fat. Don't believe this calculator! Get it done professionally by a doctor!
When you calculate your BMI where is the chart to see what your index relates too?
The using weight and height to calculate BMI can be extremely misleading. Take 2 people of the same height, one muscular and the other fat. Because muscle weighs more than fat, the muscular person will have a higher BMI, and therefore will be more likely to be unhealthy. A much better measure is percent of body fat, this is the one I am now using because I am tired of being labelled obese because I am a 5'10", 205lb muscular person.
Absolutely inaccurate! I work with a guy who has a beer gut and a bit of b00bs; he's skin and bones (more or less LOL) elsewhere... BMI says he's perfect!
BMI is a false indication of a person's fitness or weight condition. It does not work well with muscular physiques.
The accurate way to measure bmi is is a type of water tank. The university here does it for free using students to do the work. . This site says my bmi is 29 but is really 19.6.
BMI is not a good measure. Body builders, or people who are very tall or short will often be in the overweight or obese catigories, and they are by any measure NOT. I sm broad in the shoulders, and according to BMI am obese. This is much to simple a calculation to be of any value.
Hello Rick,
Here is Health Canada's BMI graph: http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/fn-an/nutrition/weights-poids/guide-ld-adult/bmi_chart_java-graph_imc_java-eng.php - Marlene Rego, web editor, Besthealthmag.ca
Ok I did my BMI...It said 23...So...Is that good? Bad? or what?...What is 23? what am I comparing it to ? What is considered normal?
all of these things should be considered, aswell as not just the fat u see on the outside but also the FAT that is around your orgains and your insides. that u need a device that hooks to your body to tell u. healthly ranges depend on man, woman?, aswell as some other factors. just make sure the site your using has the correct info!!!
your BMI is inaccurate !
You cant measure BMI on fit muscluar body same as on a simply a fat person, we can weigh the same but one of has muscle mass one has fat... so BMI calculator, your wrong!. Whom ever invented this tool, think again and stop making peopel insecure about their weight with this crazy BMI idea.
I have recently heard on CBC that the BMI is not the "be all" that it has been touted in the past. I agree, as my BMI constantly states that I am severely obese, when I am 5"10" and 162lbs. If this is obese, what about the rest? I have started following the new Edmonton Obesity staging system. I am still overweight by it, but at least I'm not obese!
I'd try this one if I were you!
Hey Jim,
BMI is not the same thing as body fat percentage. BMI is just a height to weight ratio that gives general guidelines for a "healthy" weight.
It doesn't take your fitness levels into account, so don't sweat BMI stats too much.
Hi Jim,
A BMI of less than 18.5 is generally considered underweight, while a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is within the "normal" weight range according to Health Canada.
You can find out more about BMI classification on their website: http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/fn-an/nutrition/weights-poids/guide-ld-adult/bmi_chart_java-graph_imc_java-eng.php
Hope that helps to clarify things - Melissa Greer, Associate web editor, Besthealthmag.ca
This calculator is messed. I entered my height - 5'8" and 165. I came out with a BMI of 25. I work out a lot so I carry more muscle than most people, and I have a bit of extra fat, too, so I know these results are slightly off. However, for a BMI of 15, which is I think considered an athletic level, I have to weigh 100 pounds... and still be 5'8". Uh, what? No. That is wrong.
Hi Dan,
Health Canada has a guide to the BMI: http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/fn-an/nutrition/weights-poids/guide-ld-adult/bmi_chart_java-graph_imc_java-eng.php
I hope this helps - Megan Lau, Web editorial assistant, Besthealthmag.ca
What is a normal BMI? Within which range should a BMI be at?
