The problem with your resolution

New Year’s resolutions are made with the best of intentions, but according to a 2007 survey by British psychologist Richard Wiseman, 88 percent of all resolutions end in failure. Why? “Too many people make these resolutions that are far too strict, and not surprisingly, they don’t last overly long,” says Dr. Yoni Freedhoff, a medical doctor, assistant professor at the University of Ottawa and founder of Ottawa’s Bariatric Medical Institute.

We asked Dr. Freedhoff, who writes about nutrition and obesity on his blog, Weighty Matters, to share five resolutions he wishes people would make.

My resolution is to be mindful of what I put in my body. Primary purpose is health. This may sound simple but is quite difficult. We have been and still are led to believe theories about health that simply are not true. There is danger in following advice that may in fact turn out to be flat wrong.
For example take the theory that cholesterol is bad. There was a note on my blood test that my chloesterol is high and and the nurse called to warn me. Doctors can prescribe statins to get the numbers in the proper range.
Having been trained as an engineer I have a tendency to question everything. Why is cholesterol bad? Will statins make me healthy? Reading and searching provided some answers. Maybe tomorrow there will be new information or new questions.
So what do I think and eat:
-Cholesterol is an essential compound and is not harmful
-Eating foods that raise blood glucose is not healthy
-Small LDL particles and glycated &oxidized LDL particles cause heart disease
-Excess carbohyrates increases number of small LDL particles
-Excess carbs glycate LDL particles
-Excess carbs increases triglycerides
-Excess carbs increase blood glucose and raise insulin level
-Saturated fat is not bad, the fat in our bodies is saturated
-Eating cholesterol does not raise blood cholesterol ie eggs are OK
-Polyunsatuated seed oils are easily oxidized even in LDL particles
-Wheat is bad, read Wheat Belly by Dr. Davis
-Wheat lectins and gluten can induce autoimmune diseases ie arthritis
-Meat is nutritious and is a healthy food
These are some of the thoughts that go through my mind when deciding on what foods to eat. I did not take the statins because I need my cholesterol.

If you cut out all these there's nothing with calories in it left to drink although I find it funny milk is on this list since it has the most nutritional value and least calories other than black coffee.
