White vinegar cleaning solution

Mix it 1:1 with water. "That's a high ratio, but vinegar is not harmful to you in any way," explains physician and infection prevention expert Dr. Camille Lemieux.

I use vinegar and water regularly. It is very effective. . Also we just purchased all new stainless steel appliances and were told by the salesperson that vinegar and water is a safe and effective way to clean them. Many store bought products will leave a film.

If you go to Haley's hints, he has a lot of good natural cleaning solutions as well that are not harmful in any way...just a suggestion

To the person that asked about using bleach on the laminate ect, Please do not use it on your floors. You would be best to use a laminate cleaner. If you do use bleach on anything please try in a very small area as a test first, and leave for 24 hours.
Another cleaning solution for some things is a solution of vinegar and amonia. does excellent work on windows. Used with newspaper that is lint free you can also use coffee filters.

I have used vinegar and water for years for cleaning windows and finger marks from chrome and some stainless surfaces. However, I understand that on some of the newer stainless steel appliances, vinegar is NOT recommended.. The information given here is not new. Also I agree that without samples of where to use these items, it is not very helpful.

If people haven't figured out yet that bleach damages surfaces, maybe they should read what is written on the jug! If you use it full strength it can be quite dangerous but even in a dilute solution you should take precautions. e.g. don't use it on the surface of your antique dining room table unless you want to take the finish off. Also, I am pretty sure it is a good idea to rinse afterwards with clear water even on surfaces like around the counter near the stove. My son used it full strength once on a pile of clothes in the washing machine. He poured it directly into the machine and the water hadn't filled it yet. nice tie dye effect :-)

Peroxide is great for removing wine stains. Mix with water

We have been using a less stronger solution for windows .I also use a combination of dishwasher (2 small squirts) detergent and vinegar (1/4 cup) for washing floors and believe it or not to "damp" mop my carpets.(use a ship mop). I mop the carpet at night to let it dry overnight. Vinegar is not harmful when digested.

Too little information.

Bleach is not eco friendly, it is harmful to your health and to our environment buy alternatives only, they are on the shelves at our local stores.

all of the articles on this site are designed to capture attention and all lack substance...waste of time reading them every time.

Bleach should not be used at all especially at home - why - it is a deadly chemical one that is extremly harmful to us humans and to the environment. There are other less harmful cleansers that are good for us and the environment. White Vinegar is the oldest known cleanser and disinfectent used by our ancient ancestors. I have been using white vinegar as a cleaner in the house since I left home in 1982 and my house is as clean as any other.

This is one of the many "flimsy" articles I find appear on your site. Without knowing what these "cleaning solutions" are supposed to be used for and any warnings on where NOT to use them, this is of no use at all.

She doesn't provide enough instruction/detail. For example she says the hydrogen peroxide can corrode "some metals". What metals? This information should be incuded.

Javex will eat a hole through fabric, take colour out of fabric,
use carefully with gloves not on furniture, yes on toilets, not with other solutions in combination

This article is useless without examples of where these wonderful solutions are best used in doing household chores. I certainly don't want to be spraying bleach or peroxide throughout the house and damaging surfaces.

just a question not a comment - can the javex solution be used on all finishes, ie wood, laminate, etc
thank you

I was surprised there were just three. For years I've used a combination of salt and either white vinegar or lemon juice to clean copper and brass. Works like a charm.
And there are others, such as baking soda for removing the calcium-mark buildups around basin and bathtub drains...
