no mention of goat's milk in this article, which is drunk by many people worldwide. Goats are much more efficient than cows at producing milk in terms of food and resourses.
Real raw milk is the best, Soy is not good for anyone because it is all GMO or you could try coconut milk which is all natural unless big business gets their hands on it./
Didn't find much useful info in the 'article lite'.Interesting comments in the posts and many are concerned about the quality. There is a timely video on Dr Mercola's website that is a must see, if you can stomach it on how these cows are actually treated in a first world country. I was horrified to learn about how pus is in the milk my kids drink!! How cows are hormonally bombarded to keep them in a constant state of milk production and calves taken away immediately. Canada does have more stringent standards but much is similar to the USA-but we can't be smug with BIG business taking overfood production. Autism rates are at a 75% increase in the last 5 yrs alone for boys. There is a link with the toxicity of our foods and our kids are the most vulnerable!
Soy is consumed by animals, not humans in Asia. Now also GMO adulterated. There is also estrogen in soy.Enough to impede a male infants sexual development,if this is what they are fed continuously.Soy is bad news,no matter what the mainstream media say!
I agree, that this article is sorely lacking in any valuable or useful information about anything really and is not even close to offering any educated and informed insight into anyone's "Best Health". I have to say, however, that I am delighted to see the passionate conversation it has ignited! There are many more well informed commenters than not. I am glad to see so many people are taking responsibility for their own best health and no longer simply accepting what we are "fed" by the government, big business, "science" and western medicine and the media.
Change starts with ourselves and with open, dynamic conversations. And for goodness sakes Best Health, try to actually know something about the subject you are presenting, or maybe add a ? to the title of your magazine. Do not underestimate your readers, its not good for business!
Get your facts straight people about the value of Dairy milk (Animals in general). All these great creatures produce milk on a daily basis (about 200 days per year) to feed the world. In Canada, all milk producers must adhere to very high standards of milk production. All animals must be very well kept and treated to sometimes better standards than us humans....
As for the equipement being used to harvest the milk from the cow, these instruments must be calibrated on a regular schedule (sometimes every month). This equipement must also be cleaned and sanitized after every use. In Canada, we have a very high standard of Quality milk coming off the farms and this standard is getting even more rigourous as the years go by. The health and safety of animals is the #1 pririty of the industry.
Organic milk is the same as regular milk. The only difference is the way the cow is treated and her daily activites (Animals must see the sun for at least 1 hr per day) and only homeopathic remedies are accepted....
Enjoy your Nice Cold glass of Soy or Rice milk, I am drinking REAL milk from a cow
Milk is for babies... Why do we drink from bovines, we should drink from women.... Are we the only species that drinks from another animal....
I was raised on Jersey milk straight from the cow...which was wonderful...absolutely no processing (not even pasteurization). I can't imagine what this 'milk' sold in stores actually is after it has been processed to death...they call it milk...I have my doubts. It certainly is not good for most human beings...& all of the products made from this processed 'milk' can't be any better than the fluid from which they are made. Soy 'milk' is now GMO & creates many problems in the human body. Personally I'd say that NONE of the 'milks' you mention in this article have any value for anyone!
whatever types of milk .... add lots of chocolate syrup, you can't go wrong!!
Dissappointed and surprised you didnt give any nutritional data on goats milk? Bizzare when the whole point was to compare different kinds of milk?
There are multiple reasons why humans especially men should not drink or eat soy products....here are a few:
Reason 1 - Toxicity
Soy increases your toxic load. It is one of the most sprayed crops. Their high content of pesticides increases your ever-increasing toxic load. In addition, aluminum content skyrockets while processing.
Reason 2 – Potential hypothyroidism
Soy contains goitragens, which are compounds that lead to hypothyroidism. To learn more about fighting hypothyroidism, attend one my Biosignature Modulation seminars.
Reason 3 – Blocking mineral absorption
Soy has a high content of phytates, which are known to inhibit the absorption of both macro-minerals (i.e. calcium) and trace minerals (i.e. zinc). The good news is that meat consumption blocks phytates. If you are going to eat tofu, make sure to eat some meat during the same meal.
Reason 4 – Link to Attention Deficit Disorder
Soy based infant formulas are linked to ADD. They contain 80 times more manganese than breast milk. Too much manganese content is linked to neurotoxicity.
Reason 5 – Increased cardiovascular load
Hemaglutinin is found in soybeans. This compound is known to make red blood cells aggregate, therefore increasing your cardiovascular load.
Dairy is not necessary in the human diet but if you do choose to have it the best by far is raw dairy from grass fed cattle. Raw milk, butter, cream, and cheese from grass fed cattle is generally easily digested by even those who are lactose intolerant. Pasteurization kills all the beneficial ingredients in dairy.
I drink Soy Milk just because I have never really liked cows milk but I agree with some of the comments regarding different milks (beverages if you must). Why so many choices in the article of cows milk? Every grocery store I go into now has goats milk as well so why was it not included?
Wow all this controversy.. but I guess that's what the thread is for.
Cow ,goat , sheep, human 2%, skim.. organic.. soy good , soy causes sludge. Adding flu shots...???
Yikes, I think I will stick to good old H2O..
HEY what about Almond Milk ...OOPS, thats a beverage not milk.
Whatever. I've been drinking 2% cow's milk all my life and I'm still here and in good health..
It seems that if you like anymore then it it's bad for you..
I'm gonna go when I'm gonna go
Meanwhile I'm gonna have fun. With the water...

Everyone is so concerned about the fat content in their foods that children these days especially the teenage girls are too scared to eat. My pediatrician always suggested giving my kids whole (homo) milk for the first 5 years of their lives (except of course the first 9 mths which they were breastfed or used formula) as whole milk had the proper amino acids importantn to brain development. Even now that my kids are 18 15 and 12, I still buy whole milk and they don't seem to have any weight problems. I don't know if it worked for them but I'm not complaining about the effects or the assets it has provided for them.
Human breast milk is for human babies. Cows milk is for baby cows. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds, real nutrients, for real people. Slowly but surely, it's 2012, and education seems to be the blind side. Do you feel energetic? Do you love waking up in the morning? Does the food you eat make you feel nourished? Ask the right questions!
Die hard environmentalists will always condemn everything, in my opinon, with all the testing done in these days, natural milk, straight from the farm , is probably the healthiest product out there. So, unless you lactose intolerable, try and get all the unpasteurized milk you can get.
Soy is not very good for you if consumed in large quantities. It is in practically every food that is processed because it is used as a base for most foods. It is cheap to produce and therefore a part of every meal already. It is known to cause cancer. The process of hulling the soy beans is the reason that there is a cancer link because of the hexane gas used to hull the beans. Soybeans are also high in estrogen and can cause hormone problems in both men and women. Hormone problems affect your reproductive system along with all other organs, including your liver function.
After extensive research for my own health reasons, I have determined that Almond Milk, Hemp Milk and Rice Milk are very healthy milk beverages that contain antioxidants and proteins. My personal favourite is Silk True Almond and Earth's Own Almond Milk, Hemp Bliss is great for cooking, very high in protein.
I've been drinking milk all of my life. I started out w/homogenized & eventually worked my way down to skim milk. Tried goats milk, ew, it's gross. Soy milk tastes yucky, I won't even try almond milk. If what one poster says is true, about milk taking calcium away from your bones, then I should've been a wasted pile of bones eons ago. I've never fractured, broken, torn, etc., any bones....EVER.
Why do you not include sugar(including lactose) among the macronutrients. Most health problems are caused by overconsumption of sugars. Products proclaim "low fat or no fat" but are loaded with various sugars. Sugars are mentioned only in fine print, not as banner headlines like the "no fat" claims;---deadly!
Soy beverage is not milk, so therefore whoever included that in the list doesn't know what he/she is talking about.
Why no mention of the fact that dairy milk (unless organic) is bad for your health, and regardless not ideal for adults? Also: the fact that the dairy industry is incredibly unethical in treatment of animals, and has a massive water and food consumption ratio. No one should drink dairy milk if they can help it.
1. Why is it that humans are the only race that never seems to ween from milk?
2. Why is it necessary to 'add' anything - ever, to a 'natural' product? We have no idea of the side affects and (potential) allergic responses from such additives.
3. WORST OF ALL - The next thing is that our government have planned to add the flu virus to milk!!!!!!!!!!!!! Am I the only one that senses the danger of this action - especially for our children?
I break the law and buy raw, unpasteurized cows milk. Tasty and healthier than the pasteuized, coloured milk "product" that passes as milk.
It's interesting that Queen Elizabeth drinks raw milk and it is legal in England but not in Canada. The Queen even had milk sent to her grandsons when they were away at school.
raw jersey milk is the best.......the proteins are better for our bodies check out A1 and A2 milk
How come no one has said anything with regard to skim milk?
It has all the nutrients minus the fat. I drink it all the time and it works for me.
I would appreciate some of your comments in regard to skim milk.
Mother can't be wrong, can she?
Why are the choices either cow's milk or non-dairy substitutes? Probably the best choice is goat or sheep milk since it is the most similar to human milk. There are plenty of other mammals whose milk is digestable and more easily digestable than cow's. In fact, it is only in North America that cow's milk is the most widely available choice.
I love milk....2% is the best in my view
All of you are crazy overreacting. Relax, they're just talking about options, none of these are bad for you, you just have to pick the right one for you. The word "milk" is being used to describe a certain look, taste etc...this isn't a scientific article, it's just nutritional facts, get over yourselves and do your own research rather than criticize an image gallery with a summary of information. Duh.
There have been many other species drinking the milk of another species to sustain life when the original mother have abandoned them or died. As well, we eat and drink many things from other species. Been doing it since beginning of time. And if you are a Bible person, it says that animals are here for that reason. If we can eat their meat, why not their milk?
I am vegetarian myself (it's just the "ick" factor for me) but I do not have a problem with dairy products. There are many MANY pesticides and other crap to worry about in all of our food these days. What are you going to eat that hasn't been contaminated? Grow your own? Sure but what about the soil? Pretty hard to find soil that doesn't have some kind of contaminate from something in the air or droppings from animals that distribute contaminates. Sure there might be better choices out there but get off your high horse. What are you going to graze on today that doesn't have it's own set of problems?
Soy is generally a genetically modified product. Unless the product specifically states that it's non-GMO, then it should be avoided. If this article comes from the Best Health magazine, it's a good reson not to take notice of any future articles from them.
Best milk proved so far by doctors, is direct from the source. You don't have to heat it up and no containers required. That is direct from mothers breast. Science should improve something like that. LOL
How come human milk is not mentioned. Biologically it is the only "milk" we should have ever consumed, and after about 1 year when we develop teeth, the body starts to not be able to digest it. No where else would you see another species drinking the milk of another species.
It is irresponsible of you to submit this article without a cautionary about the adverse side effects of drinking too much soy milk,i.e gallbladder problems due to sludge build up from drinking too much soy. 3 glasses per week, not 3 glasses per day is acceptable
I love 2%, Organic milk. It tastes the best out of all the milks. And I agree with others, the nuts & soy drinks are "beverages" not milks. Milk is milk from cows, goats, sheep, humans, etc.
Soy, and most rice, is all now GMO in North America and contains insecticide. Why do you recommend it? Are you ignorant of this indisputable fact?
Health and disease are directly tied to pH in our system. When the bodi is in an acidic state, it stops functioning properly and disease takes root. Many scientific studies have shown an assortment of detrimental health effects directly linked to milk consumption. And the most surprising link is that not only do we barely absorb the calcium in cow’s milk (especially if pasteurized), but to make matters worse, it actually increases calcium loss from the bones. What an irony this is!
Here’s how it happens. Like all animal protein, milk acidifies the body pH which in turn triggers a biological correction. You see, calcium is an excellent acid neutralizer and the biggest storage of calcium in the body is – you guessed it… in the bones. So the very same calcium that our bones need to stay strong is utilized to neutralize the acidifying effect of milk. Once calcium is pulled out of the bones, it leaves the body via the urine, so that the surprising net result after this is an actual calcium deficit.
Knowing this, you’ll understand why statistics show that countries with the lowest consumption of dairy products also have the lowest fracture incidence in their population.
Soy milk is bad for humans. Soy is a bean product that requires 4 stomaches to digest. Whatever happened to the healthiest milk of all? Oh I fogot it's our GOVERNMENT! Raw milk is the only healthy milk out there. It doesn't matter if it's goat or cow it's the best milk for the body. It's full of antibodies and very easy to digest. It has very short shelf life (3-4 days) because there are no preservitives in it. Now that is healthy milk. This article is crap!!!
All animal milk is bad,,,bad ...bad for you it was made for the baby animals not for human consumption.healthiest milk for humans is coconut milk hasn't anyone read the latest studies on coconut milk .this article sucks
I drink SILK Almond Milk simply because it contains 50% more calcium than regular milk. I've never been a lover of milk but I know the need for calcium, especially as you age, I enjoy the taste of this Almond Milk and I drink two glasses a day. The rest of calcium I get from eating foods that are high in calcium. I came off of calcium tablets because it's now been said that too much will give women of a certain age group a heart attack and my Doctor, surprise, surprise, actually talked to me about that since she knows that I took 1500mg a day. Now that's too much apparently.
Soy milk has very high amounts of estrogen which can be dangerous for women with a history of breast cancer. Despite the antioxidents. Pastuerized, Skim and 2% milk have all been treated with hormones, vaccines and steroids that have been proven to be passed on to the consumer.
Any type of milk alternative can affect a person that is lactose intolerant. Whether it's the amount consumed or the ingredients of the sweetners or additives, high sugar consumptrion increases the effect of intolerance.
Moderation is the true key to milk consumption or finding other sources of the benefits milk provides. Be aware that the commercial brands of Soy milk, Almond milk and rice milk all use sweetners.
I know first hand about persons with Thyroid problems who drank Soy Milk. I did as a means of keeping my LDL cholesteral level in check. I lost 22 lbs one year after I had my annual physical and my Doctor asked me if I was dieting. She knew I have a Thyroid problem and should have had an inkling that something must have changed in my diet (other than dieting) to cause such a weight loss. I stumbled upon this connection by accident while reading an article to do with "Maintaining a Healthy Thyroid" and that's where I learned about Soy milk is a No No for persons with Thyroid issues. It's becoming more important for us to take care of our own health. The family doctors are just interested in writing prescriptions.
I grew up on the best milk available. Whole cows milk right from the cow. It is still the best milk today even though we are told we can't drink it because it might "hurt" us. The only reason it might hurt is because of all the gunk they give the animals...Store bought milk is NOT real milk.
Soy Milk is NOT MILK. Milk comes from the mammary gland of a mammal. Simple as that. It is NOT a dairy product. It is NOT a milk substitute. There is no substitute for milk - cow, goat, sheep, camel or llama. Drink what you want - just don't go messing with the term MILK!
Why would you not have posted something on goats milk, still one of the healthiest "dairy" alternatives for humans, in terms of its make up it most closely resembles mothers milk and is highly digestible, not to mention all its other health benefits?
Only four types of milk and very shallow research. This article is a waste of time and a good reason for me to stop delving into misleading headlines. Sympatico, you should be ashamed.
Soy milk and all soy products are good and healthy, I love tofu and will eat it occationaly, I am on thyroid medication, soy products will block the thyroid medication.
It's soy beverage, almond beverage, rice beverage.
Milk comes from mammals.
I was disappointed with this article. The comparison is only showing three types of milk. The other three drinks may be called milk however they are a juice. How about comparing some other types of milk such as Dairy oh, Pure filter, whole milk, etc.? Thanks.
What happened to whole milk (3.25 percent) Lots of people still use it and it would be good to know if there are any more benefits in this compared to 2 percent.
I prefer milk without all the food removed. The best milk retailed is homogenized, that was before they removed it from the shelves.
I'd really like to have un-pasturized milk available. But greedy corporations have done everything in their power to legislate a strong monopoly.
Soy milk tastes weird. 1% tastes like water with chalk in it. 2% like water with double the chalk, and the new silk milk isn't really even milk!
Get real!
