I think you need to do a little more research on cheese. Systematic studies have shown that anywhere from 20 - 60 percent of typical rheumatoid arthritis cases are linked to diet, and dairy products are the most common trigger.

I eat all these foods all the time and can find no truth to these findings at all.

Jenn, the name of the book is "Dry Skin And Common Sense". but I cannot recall
the name of the Author...

I went to a naturapath years ago and was advised to avoid tomatoes, potatoes, beets and green peppers. This has helped me a great deal and I would recomend it to anyone with arthritis.

My 11 year old suffers Juvenile Arthritis, and my wife and I have talked to a number of specialists, and not one of them has mentioned anything about these supposed :Superfoods". Please take this article with a grain of salt, do your research, and talk to a specialist! A balanced diet low on processed foods, and exercise... good for all! Cheers!

This article and most of these comments are ridiculous. There are over 100 different kinds of arthritis!!!!! All are caused for very different reasons and eating these foods are not going to prevent every kind of arthritis. Also that's nice that many of you take various supplements or use various diets and it has helped your arthritis. BUT you may have a very different kind of arthritis than another commentator so what works for you will not necessarily work for them. Finally, under no circumstances should anyone stop taking their medication for their arthritis unless directed by their doctor to do so. You can take dietary supplements or change you diet but that does not mean you no longer need to take your medicine. For rheumatoid arthritis in particular, the consequences can be dire and lead to deformity and death.

I found raw bee pollen in it's raw form to be the best to alliviate the discomfort with my arthritis. There are at least 3 co workers who have used it in the last year and all have similar results ( 1 to 2 tablespoons a day). Note it's got to be raw and not processed (i.e. capsule form, I've tried both) and VERY IMPORTANT!!!! start with a small dosage if you are susceptable to bee sting reactions, then bee pollen is not an option. You'll have to google a bee hive supplier in your area (also good for local allergies)

I have had arthritis for many years. I am now 68 years old. I think we all have to find what works for us. I cannot eat citrus fruits, red meat and very little bread. Vegetables and fruits are best for me. I have friends who swear by citrus fruits?? The best course of action with arthritis is finding out what works for you and getting exercise. Not exercising is one of the worst things for arthritis. I stretch before I get out of bed in the morining. I go for a walk twice a day. I have tried yoga and yes it does work. I have some limited mobility in my arms, so I do what I can. Arthritis is life altering, and you have to learn what you can do and what you can eat.

Cheese is full of fat and sodium - you would be much better off with skim milk in your diet or a fat free - sodium free yougurt

Boy! all the health advisor's that wrote in. Is there anything that is healthy to eat? I say eat whet you want, and if it disagress with you. DON'T eat it anymore. Eat only the foods you like, but in moderation.

everyone is different so I say try eliminating one food that you continuously eat for a week at a time and see if it helps-process of elimination worked for me-and my biggest pain causing culprit which I did drink a lot of was milk as soon as I eliminated it my pain lessened

no one mentions eggs are they good-I understand veggies and fruits are helpful but would appreciate knowing how people get protein if most dairy is to be avoided

I would not recommend any soy product to anyone!!! It is pure garbage!!!!

Changing your diet is very important----no processed foods-----no sugar----no white flour products-----and eliminate gluten as well...Take a high quality vitamin and excercise. And there is a new all natural cream that helps with pain discomfort that I like.....White Cedar Remedy by ancientcedarremedies.com ....good luck!!!

This article is complete rubbish! Another example of the establishment media doing it's best at misinforming people. Soy, lentils, cheese are very acidic therefore make arthritis worse. I believe the best cure is just plain cherries... look it up online. Works wonders for me.

And alkalize your diet.... try going veg or raw veg for a month and see if it helps.

Arthritis is mainly cause by increase uric acid in the blood. soya, lentils and shrimps contains so much of uric acid.
This is not a credible write up.

why does your article on the above subject matter (arthritis) not allow the printing of the pros and cons of the various results patients have had with your suggested food products. WHO has done the proper research into this serious medical condition? If your research has been provided by a bigoted charlaton and you have allowed its presentation for the purpose of befuddling the suffering patients who are reliying on the good and credable information that your service provides, to overcome this pestulance, WOE to YOU........

I eat a lot of these foods, sorry to say it did not help me with the pain or the arthritis.

The biggest problem I have with these comments is that most people assume everyone's reactions to foods is the same. I assure you people's reactions vary.My arthritis comes and goes; glucocosamine [sic?] sulphate did not work. The pain got real bad last year, so I started reading books, not advertisements, the internet, chat rooms, nor health food gurus. I found that some people have issues with red meat. So I cut it out for a few weeks and was much better. In July I developed stomach and intestinal problems leading me to eat some yogurt every day. The arthritis is still much better and those other problems are much better too. I would never suggest what I did was a cure all but it worked for me.

Apple cider vinegar and honey is one of the best (1 Tbspn of each in WARM (not hot) water before each meal), cinnamon (half a tspn mixed with a Tbspn of honey), and new Zealand green lipped mussel extract are right up there too.

Excellent article.
It would be nice if you can have the whole thing displayed on one page rather than clicking through ten times.
Besides, it would help if we can print it for future reference.

Avoid dairy for bone health? How do you get calcium for your bones, from pills? If you have problems such as lactose intolerance then its another matter but, milk and yogurt especially probiotic yogurt is an excellent source for calcium and also good for your stomach.

I have some arthritis in my hands and knees and was living with the pain and discomfort. But, I had very bad dry skin in the winter and my hands and feet would blister and bleed. I was embarassed.and researched "dry skin", I came across a book written several decades ago and it recommended cod liver oil for a lot of good sense reasons. I started taking it (1 tbsp) in the a.m. and my skin improved and I no longer have the problem but I also noticed I wasn't suffering from my arthritic pain. It took a few weeks for me to notice (exactly 28 days) and that was 4 years ago and I still take it every a.m. although I did cut back to 1 tsp. I've passed on the book to a friend who now also swears by cod liver oil. Sorry, I cannot remember the name or author but the title did have "Dry Skin" as part of it. If you suffer, try it and see if it helps.

I must concur with the others who replied to this article. Along with giving bad suggestions, it also seems not to address arthritis very much. Other than the title, arthritis was noticeable by not appearing very often.

It seems like paint by number set of generic suggestions for some foods to eat that have some good qualities associated with them. It seemed like the writer was given some instructions to quickly crank out a health piece on arthritis and clicked and pasted a generic food article.

A real waste of an article.

Best thing for bone health you can do is to avoid dairy.

A University Of Washington study states there is no evidence regarding night shade vegetables.

Nightshades can't possibly be good for arthritis! Where are you getting your information?

At 30 years young I suffer from severe Arthritis and I have never had any specialist or pharmacist tell me to avoid things in this list. I maintain a holistic, natural lifestyle and find that eating lots fruits and veggies helps my pain...and I'm especially fond of tomatoes and peppers. I rarely have to take medication and use Yoga to help alleviate weather-related pain. As there is literally no scientific proof that these items can worsen arthritis, I believe that pain varies from arthritis sufferer to arthritis sufferer. Commen sense is key...if one notices something aggrivates their arthritis, then avoid it. For myself there is much more nutritional value in these foods my body can benefit from. Research everything you put into your body. Not every site on the web contains accurate information...speak with a professional. ;-D

ANY milk products are not recommended for inflammatory disease. The article is not only useless, but also misleading! Very helpful are dark green vegetables, kale in particular, grapefruit, pineapple.

you should google night shade vegetables yourself Renie, it says some people find peppers improve symptoms. You are so negative do your research before telling other readers false info.

Not eating these foods did not cause arthritis. Eating wheat and other grains plus excess carbohydrates is the cause.Do yourself a favor and google the cause. Eating as per the Canada Food Guide is a recipe for disaster since 60% of energy is from carbohydrates. Fats will replace carbohydrates as the energy source. We have been conditioned to fear saturated fat and cholesteron but it is the sugar (carbohydrates) that causes disease. The low fat diet is not healthy.

i find any info sympatico provides is crap!!!!!!

Cut sugar, other than natural fruit sugars... period! Plus, cheese... NO! Dairy is terrible for arthritis. I have rheumatoid arthritis very bad at 29. As long as I watch my sugar intake and stay active it doesn't really bug me and I take nothing for it. If I am inactive for more than 3 days and eat even a piece of cake the inflammation is so bad throughout my shoulders and down my spine I have a hard time breathing. You would be amazed the quality of life you can have when you cut processed sugars.

The picture shown is not sweet potatoes but Yams, many people often confuse the two but Yams are orange and sweet potatoes are a yellowish cream color once peeled. They look very similar when not peeled.

Pure garbage.Soy is not and has never been an Asian staple,it is a condement.Typical foolish westerners think a little of something is good more is better.Soy is full of phytoestrogen wich disrupts the endocrine system.Men especially beware of this crap
if activities in in the bedroom are important to you.

what utter rubbish if that was true they would have engineered a pill from these food,s have had arthritis for 30yrs and never has there been a cure

salmon has lots of good qualities, especially BC salmon from the fraser river that has wastes from the pulp and paper industry dumped into it for over a hundred years plus every other industry on its shores.

This article is fsourced from a Reader's Digest book, not health experts. Come on. PEPPERS should not be on this list!! A member of the nightshade family and causes INFLAMMATION! Anyone with athritis is told to avoid peppers, eggplants, tomatoes and whilte potatoes for this reason. Much information out there now that SOY does more harm than good and is now is for the most part genetically altered(GMO). All soy products are no longer recommended by REAL health experts. Please do your research before spreading misinformaton to the general public and especially to those suffering with arthritis.

I agree, aren't night shade veggies like peppers bad for arthritis. At least this is what I have heard.. I love them so I eat them anyways but maybe I should avoid them for awhile and see if it helps.

Please go your research thoroughly. As stated above, peppers are part of the night shade family and should not be consumed if you have arthritis. Readers, please google 'night shade vegetables'.

Sweet peppers listed as easing joint pain is erroneous. They are part of the nightshade vegetables and as such have been viewed as a food for arthritics to limit significantly. I am not sure where you are obtaining your information.
