1. Popcorn

"Popcorn counts as being a whole grain, so it's actually pretty healthy for you," says Zannat Reza, a registered dietitian based in Toronto. But we're not talking about movie-style popcorn that's drenched in butter.  Keep it plain or add healthier toppings such as Parmesan cheese or a pinch of brown sugar and cinnamon. "If you're adding [the topping] yourself, you have a lot more control over how much you put on," Reza says.

Oh for God's sake. I'm so sick of hearing "This is good for you because it has such-n-such" only to hear someone else say "No it's not!! It has such-n-such" I say... Keep it simple! My Goodness... it should NOT be that complicated. Here's my advice: Every natural food out there- be it animal, plant or mineral has nutritional value. Eat too MUCH of it, and you may face problems. So eat small amounts of as many different foods as you can. Everything in moderation. (as far as grains go, I only eat whole grains) If you're looking to lose weight, that's simple too: Follow the previous rule, while keeping this in mind: Don't eat more calories than your body burns. WHY must we make it so complicated?

10 years ago, I lost 70lbs. I've kept it off all this time just by following the afformentioned "rules." Now I'm fit, healthy, and happy. No wonder people get lost, confused, frustrated, and eventually give up on healthy eating/ weightloss.

wow...terrible terrible recommendations...

How bout chocolate bars. They have cacao - that's healthy! AND they have sugar - but no more than a glass of apple juice! If you believed anything here you're probably retarded.

the canada food guide is not correct aand caters to the agriculture industry. pasta and grains should be very minimal if not completely non existant from our diets. they iflame our digestive tracts as they contain hardy protiens (lectins) that do not get broken down. there is nothing wrong with eating eggs. people who eat eggs have lower serum cholesterol level (bad) and more deitary cholesterol levels than those who do not. and there is nothing wrong with saturated fats. people need to change their thinking about eating fat.

A single Egg contains more than 200 milligrams of cholesterol plus a load of saturated fat so one has to be careful as to whom you direct this advice {that eggs are good for you}

Popcorn has a GI of 72, but a GL (Glycemic Load, or calorie content) of 8, which is good. Healthy GL is 10, healthy GI is 55.
