Are you kidding, I have spent a lot of time in hospitals over the past 7 years with my girlfriend who has been taking chemo for that period of time.
I am utterly amazed at how may nurses and doctors are severely overweight and who stand outside of the hospital smoking.

In response to something Chris posted "sugar has been proven to cause diabetes", I would like to point out as a diabetic, a nurse and a mother of a Type 1 (or juvenile diabetes) child, that sugar does not cause diabetes. Can too much sugar in one's diet cause obesity which can lead to diabetes? Yes, of course it can. My daughter was diagnosed at age 13 with Type 1 diabetes after being seriously ill with a virus including which caused a highfever. She is not overweight and did not get diabetes from eating sugar. I myself have been diabetic for nearly 20 years as I had gestational diabetes while pregnant with my first child and then developed Type 2 diabetes afterwards. I have never been someone to eat a lot of sugar, never took it in my tea or coffee, etc. I did not get diabetes from eating sugar. I got it because I have a hereditary risk for it. Respectfully, please get your facts straight. I get very upset when I hear people perpetuating these myths.
As far as the argument about artificial sweeteners - I am leaning more and more towards believing that they can cause harmful effects to people (note that I said can cause, not do cause). I do believe that as a society in general, we should get back to eating a more natural diet. I am not saying never, ever have a diet cola or whatever, but just like eating natural, albeit highfat/high calorie foods in moderation, so too should we choose processed foods in even more moderation.

Ah, the artificial sweetener argument. I love the proof that's submitted for this argument of injesting these unhealthy sweeteners. You know the arguments, the ones containing those power phrases that everyone buys into. "Has been linked to" "Can contribute to" "May lead to". Until someone comes up with concrete evidence that says, "Tests prove that without a shadow of a doubt artificial sweeteners cause cancer" I will continue with my artificial sweetener in my coffee and on my oatmeal. For every death 'linked' to artificial sweetener, I will show you ten million related to sugar.

The big argument with sweeteners is that the body can't process them. They are a chemical. Anyone who's told me they are poison are wrong, because I'm still alive and typing this response. One thing this doctor, our supposed expert of the day, did not mention was alcohol. Gee, I wonder why. Guess what? The body can't process alcohol either hence liver disease. And I think there are a few more people in this world drinking alcohol over taking sweetener, just a few.

Let's lay off the sweetener arguments shall we? Sugar companies have taken a huge hit over the past couple of decades and have no defense except to throw propaganda to the people as to why artificial sweeteners are toxic for us. Again, sugar has been proven to cause diabetes, obesity and issues related to heart disease and stroke. Artificial sweetener has NOT caused any life -threatening diseases. The winner? Quite unanimous, isn't it? I'll let our doctor get back to drinking her wine.

I never touched these things EVER and I never will. I am not even a doctor. I just knew these things intuitively.

Yes to butter in moderation. Dark Chocolates. No apple pies, lard, margarine, donuts, splenda or any of such things. They cause more agony than the good it is supposed to do.

Common sense, isn't it? No expensive research is necessary to tell us about these things.

Wow, sucks to be you... Eat in moderation and live your life.

I AM 76 AND I HAVE OUT LIVED 5 THATS 5 DOCTORS,

There are alternatives to artificial sweetners for diabetics. I know a few in my family are diabetic. A natural alternative to sugar, honey and artificial sweeteners is Stevia. It is concentrated (come in a small bottle or packets like the artificial junk)and a little goes a long way.

Don't rage at the doctor for making healthy suggestions and ponting out the crap that is in most packaged food. Look into alternatives. They are out there and with the internet they are extremely easy to find these days.

Also, some doctors like lawyers, business men, blue collar workers and so on are people like anyone else. They make lifestyle choices, some good and some bad. Why yell at one who actually takes control of her eating habits? She may have a crazy schedule, but like a number of doctors I know they do make time for important things. You can order in good food even if you don't have time to make it or go out to get it! It just depends on the restaurant you choose to order from.

So if you are in a 40hr or a 8hr/week job it is up to you to decide how well you eat and how much self control you have.

Well, I'm not a doctor and I don't eat any of these things either. It isn't that hard if you have self control. Didn't you see the last slide about moderation?

This is ridicules. Doctors are the worst offender for indulging in bad for you food. A high stress job with awful hours equals eating food that they tell their patients not to touch.

And as for the artifical sweeteners? Diabetic's and people with a sensitivity to sugar aren't allowed to enjoy sweet treats. This is ridicules.

When my mother was diagnosed with diabetes the nurse told her eat whatever you want, just with moderation.

yeah right - because doctors are sooooo perfect! There is nothing wrong with anything mentioned as long as it's in MODERATION!!!! As a society we have become so dumb that we want everything BANNED. It's not fair to the majority of us, who believe it or not have enough common sense to know that processed hot dog meat every day is not a good idea. The government intrudes enough on our lives, lets at least try to keep it's ugly head out of my plate. I don't buy this bull that doctors are so perfect, they are humans, they are just more aware to the dangers, it does not immune them from these types of foods.
