Wild venison (deer) has 1 - 2% fat as the fat is stored externally on the muscle compared to 15-20% fat for extra lean ground beef. This is one of several true free range fed animals not penned and forced fed.
Thats a bunch of crap, extra lean ground beef has similar amts of fat if not less , is far more tasty and by far less expensive, my guess is this person has never consumed Elk or Bison. Define " Holistic nutritionist"
Really people? Have you ever LOOKED for bison/buffalo/elk/ostrich/etc. before? It really isn't that hard to find if you shop outside of major supermarkets (though some will even carry these alternatives).
Oh darn, I'm fresh out of ground elk. Hang on, I'll check the freezer. Nope, we used the last of the bison last week. Better go hunting before the Superbowl or the chilli will be a disaster.
I would love to consume bison or other game instead of traditional beef. However, unless you know someone who hunts, how do you aquire it? In Europe they have butchers who specialize in Game meats, but I've never heard of anything like that in Toronto.
