Scheduling time for working out!

Patty - September 08, 2010 - 11:24

Having a routine is so important so that I remain consistent with my fitness and healthy eating. Over the summer it is difficult because of changing schedules with vacation, etc..

I am looking forward to next week. My son is heading to college and will be commuting with me 4 days a week. He will also be heading to the gym with me on at least 3 of those days!! This will be great for both of us - getting back into routine.I meet with a trainer a couple of times a week and having my son there too will be extra motivation for me! Especially as the weather gets cooler it will keep me from finding excuses not to go to the gym.

We are also planning a couple of weeks of meals since both of us will be packing breakfast and lunch each day. I am looking forward to the opportunity to have him participate in making healthy choices, as opposed to me just planning the meals. He has helped with the cooking, but it has always been up to me to plan so this is a good way for him to understand the why behind healthy food choices. I know it will help me to stay on target too!!

So even though it is hard to see summer fade, I am looking forward to the routine and new schedule that this fall is bringing me!!

Week 3!

Ok week 3 and progress reports are just around the corner and the stress is going to set in soon. I am trying to remain focused, still keeping the routine going although I am exhausted we are keeping the walks and meal planning with the kids!

Week 3~

Way to go!! Keep it up! I know it is hard but the rewards are priceless!!
Keep us posted on how its going!!

Cold & Flu Season!

OK so it finally happened I have the first major illness of the year, yuck..but the difference is even though I cannot run (chest cold) I am still walking with the 2 dogs in the AM and the family in the PM. Hopefully I will beat this cold & flu sooner rather than later:)

How its going.......

So I thought I would update everyone on how the first week is going. We have been to the gym 2 mornings so far - Monday and Wednesday and our meals have been great. Planning and cooking on the weekend make short work of dinners when we get home and both of us have had healthy breakfasts and lunches.
It has been fun to plan and cook together and to start a bit of a competition at the gym - it is great motivation for me and a great deal of satisfaction knowing that these will be times that he will remember for the rest of his life and hopefully transfer to his own family some day:-)
Tomorrow we have to make an adjustment because he was called in to work after school, but having made a schedule keeps both of us accountable and then we needed to reschedule, not cancel tomorrow.
I will keep you posted because we pulled out the crock pot to help us with the evening meals - curried carrot soup is on the menu for tonight! Patty

Patty, that sounds excellent.

Excellent Idea!

Wow Patti!
You really have it figured it out, I look forward to hearing about your plan. I am finding myself over whelmed at meal planning, finding time for myself and keeping a exercise routine. I have found that if I devote 30 minutes each evening to meal planning and 30 minutes to myself for exercise. However, things get in the way like a sick child, homework and phone calls! Any suggestions would help!

The things we can't plan for

Hi Sherrie, I'm currently working on finishing my second post-secondary degree and I've found that some reading or group-assignment crisis always comes up and gets in the way of me working out. I really admire that you've set a goal to devote at least an hour a day to your well-being! For myself in the Challenge--and I hope this works for you, too--I've found that I have to strike a balance between resolutely finding the time for exercise and being okay with it when I don't because life happens! As long as you have the right intention, you're on the right path. -Megan Lau, web editorial assistant

Thanks~

I have found as well (even thought this is only the second week) that if I enlist the help of my 2 older daughters (6 & 5) with the meal planning and lunch making the morning goes a lots smoother as well. Baby has been just so interested in playing with hi play doh that we have actuall had at least 20 minutes to get things planned! As well, the girls like knowing what is in their lunches and what we are having for dinner they feel like they are helping Mommy!
