Why you need to know about COPD

Today is World COPD Day, and the Lung Association wants you to learn more about this chronic disease that affects 1.5 million Canadians.

COPD stands for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, and is a term that includes both emphysema and chronic bronchitis. People with COPD suffer from symptoms such as shortness of breath, increased mucus and coughing. According to a report released Monday by the Lung Association, 69 percent of Canadians haven't heard of COPD and an estimated 1.6 million Canadians over 40 could have undiagnosed COPD.

Does someone you know have these symptoms? Find out more about COPD from the Lung Association.
