While this may read like an elementary school essay, it’s more about how I used Canada Day to focus on myself and family. That’s a rare treat nowadays, and I do recommend it.

Yesterday I had the day off, like many Canadians. So I booked an appointment with my hairstylist, who works independently from her home. I made it early in the day as to not impede on her own holiday. (I'm hoping my tip made it up to her).

For lunch, my boyfriend and I had lean steak burgers, and after I picked up my niece and nephew and took them out for the afternoon. Don’t be fooled by this “unselfish” act. I had a blast.

We went to Zoom Zoom, which is an indoor playground not much unlike the Playplace at McDonalds, but without the tempting french fries. There are some snacks, but families are encouraged to bring their own peanut-free food. Plus the jungle gym is huge. Moms and dads can play tag with their kids through dangling punching bags, swirling slides, bumpy ladders and tons more. The facility also has free wireless internet and lounge chairs for parents who need a bit of time to relax while the young ones run themselves tired. The kids had a great time and ended up making new friends. 

Then we went to It’s Your Festival. The rain poured down, and there was no convincing my niece and nephew to leave. They rode ponies, played basketball toss to win a prize, and they even convinced me to go on Tilt-A-Whirl (twice!). I hadn’t been on a carnival ride in 15 years! What a fun day.
