I agree Julie. Many times I have went to work feeling underweather for the same reason. I too am a nurse and I think we are probably the worst profession for coming in sick. We think we are invincible to the bugs. Really we are doing an injustice to ourselves and the patients we are looking after. We need to look after ourselves better so we can serve the public adequately. This issue of not enough nurses is not ours to fight alone.
Pressured to work because we never have enough staff nurses to do the work anyway. So if one of us are sick that increases the work load and safety of patient care even more than normal, which makes nurses feel guilty because we really care about standards and our clients health; but it's administrations guilt not front line workers we have no control over staffing levels.
Health care is a toxic environment; too many clerical staff etc and not enough front line RN's.
If i go sick all kinds of negative comments come from my peers; what was that about sensitivity to mental health issues in the work place.
