Nutrition: This nut is even healthier than we thought

Almonds are the most nutrient-dense tree nut, and serve as an excellent source of vitamin E and magnesium. They're also a good source of calcium, protein and fibre.

Now, a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (AJCN) has found that whole almonds have approximately 20 percent fewer calories than originally thought.

Researchers used a new method of measurement, which allowed them to determine the number of calories in almonds actually digested and absorbed.  (According to the study's authors, some of the fat in almonds may be excreted with the almond fibres.) The results? A one-ounce serving of almonds (about 23 almonds) has just 129 calories versus the 160 calories previously thought (and the number of calories that are currently listed on the Nutrition Facts Panel).

The study's author's also hypothesize that other nuts may also be lower in calories than thought. Pistachio's anyone?

Betty this is not the place to complain about nuts in food. If you don't want to die, be careful about where you eat out, what you buy at the store, how others/you handle food to avoid cross-contamination etc... Otherwise, I'm sure this article is aimed towards people who don't have nut allergies and are partial to almonds. :)

Almonds are also the worse thing for your teeth, per a quote from a dentist

In a few years they will discover another new method of measurement and say this one was wrong. Go figure.
The best thing to do is quit listening to all these opinions and use your own judgement.
These studies are enough to drive anyone crazy.

And those of us who have nut allergies are asking people NOT to put nuts into everything. No matter how healthy they are, DEATH is not so healthy for us. Please put them in your own food but not mine. I guess this means that more processed foods will have nuts in them.
