News: Have acne? You might want to stop eating this.

If you've tried every lotion, medication and facial on the market, and you still can't seem to get the clear skin you crave - the foods you eat could be to blame.

A new study, published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, shows a link between dairy and high-glycemic foods and acne.

"A high-glycemic index/glycemic load diet and frequent dairy consumption are the leading factors in establishing the link between diet and acne," the study's authors say.

High-glycemic foods result in a rapid rise in blood sugar, whereas low-glycemic foods are slowly released into your body.

The good news is, many high-glycemic index foods are also unhealthy ones: Refined grain (such as white flour) cakes and pastries, soda, sweetened cereals and cookies. So while you're improving your skin, you can also improve your health.

Dairy products are another offender according to the study's authors, including ice cream, yogurt and milk.

The important message? When treating acne - look at your diet too.

"The medical community should not dismiss the possibility of diet therapy as an adjunct treatment for acne," says says Jennifer Burris, of the Department of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health at New York University.

What do you think? Have you cut dairy or high-glycemic foods out of your diet? Did it improve your skin?
