News: Being seaside does wonders for your mood
News: Being seaside does wonders for your mood

Need a relaxing way to decompress this weekend? Head to the country or seaside. British researchers found that spending time near the shore boosts positive feelings and promotes an overall healthier mindset.

While getting outdoors is always good for you, the study's researchers found time spent in urban parks to be the least beneficial—perhaps because of the difference in air quality.

Personally, I find being near water–whether it's a stream, lake or ocean—to be the most serene place in the world.

Do you notice a difference in your mood after a walk near the water?

I live in Barrie near Kempenfelt Bay and when I take a walk along the shore, it's very peaceful and calming. I also love driving to Collingwood and walk along the shores of Georgian Bay, which is so blue and one of the most beautiful waters in Ontario. My goal is to retire near water and would love to be near an ocean at some point. Love the water, and love to swim.

I live west of Toronto on The Lake...And whenever i feel a bit down I go for a walk on the lake front.Listen to the waves lapping..watch the seagulls and ducks etc and in about 20 minutes or so i feel a lot brighter and more alive and positive...I cant explain how it works ..It just works..

Check out Dr.Stephen Sinatra and his theory about being grounded and how it relates to health. Basically being at the beach with bare feet in the water is the best way to ground yourself. At the cellular level electrons are involved and if the body's electrical potential is altered the electron transport within cells will be affected. That electrons affect health and mood might seem far fetched at first but this article raises the possibility that there is a correlation.
