Have some healthy pizza for dinner tonight

Pizza is hardly known as a health food, usually due to high levels of fat (cheese), refined carbs (that white crust) and processed meats, and typically minimal amounts of vegetables. But the right pizza can actually be a very healthy meal—if you make it (or order it) right.

To start with, tomatoes (in the sauce, or as a topping) are good-for-you ingredients that may help protect your skin from the sun. Keep an eye out—the über-delicious locally grown varieties should be available at your farmer's market soon. And make sure to add lots of oregano (fresh or dried) to the sauce—a new study from Bonn University shows that oregano contains a substance with anti-inflammatory properties.

The more vegetables, the better, of course—pick out a variety of your favourites and pile them on. If you choose to add meat, favour unprocessed varieties like chicken. Go for less cheese, and finally, pick a whole-wheat or multigrain crust rather than white.
