I notice the price of the breakfast is not mentioned. However the meal is compared to a steak dinner costing $75 so I would assume the breakfast would probably cost about the same or a little less.
Call me crazy but who in their right mind would want to first - try to eat that much food in that short amount of time - risk bursting their stomach - risk becoming sick and then on top of that have to pay such a huge amount of money for not finishing what they started.
Heck when I go out to dinner I hate having to pay $25 for a half-decent steak why would I ever what to pay 3 times that!
Would I attribute this to obesity in general - no. No one would eat this day after day. Would I call someone a glutten for eating this - probably not as I would like to believe they know better. But what I would call this is a "15-minutes of fame or shame" challenge. You eat it all, you get your 15 minutes of fame and since someone mentioned MVF (Man vs. Food) those challenges usually mean your picture on a wall. Don't finish it - you'd better have the money to pay up and be up for the finger pointing of "he/she didn't do it - hahaha".
No matter how you look at this, one thing is very clear - we as a society are promoting this type of behaviour. If we keep it up, overeating and supersizing won't be a challenge anymore, it will be a way of life. Sad, very sad.
Wow - way to get bent out of shape. Not like this is anything new - remember all the eating contests back in the day - pies, hot dogs, chili etc.? That was deemed as 'good old fashioned fun' at fairs, picnics and people sat in an audience and cheered watching to see who could consume the most food in the shortest period of time. I would put this under the category of gluttony if someone were to come in to order and eat this on a regular basis - a few friends having some fun and a good laugh? It's all good.
Man vs Food has been on TV for 4 years...this isn't really anything new...

What's stopping people from going to a grocery store and buying chips and donuts and washing it down with a soda. Maybe we should blame grocery stores but I'm more apt to say people need to follow a simple rule. If your overweight stop eating crap and hit the veggie aisle. Oh and skip the dressing.
if anyone choses to eat like that why should we as tax payer pay for their help
Waste of food, gluttonous act??.It is just diners having a challenge and fun. I am sure they are few and far between who try this. So all of you arm chair experts should calm down and get a life.
I live in Quebec - whatever you have for breakfast here, there are always fruits on the plate, when I travel in the states - I never see any fruits with their breakfast meals. If we are thinking to eating better - would it be a good thing to add to breakfast all over the world. If this meal is true - no wonder there are so many people with weight problems.
How do you get 9 lbs from this....are they using ostrich eggs?
Why can't people just leave this stuff alone? Nobody is putting a gun to people's heads and making them eat this stuff. Adults are supposed to have the intelligence and freedom to make their own choices. It is not the responsibility of these restaurants to act as the customer's mother. If they want to eat that crap, go for it. If the restaurant feels that this is a way to make their business unique, go for it. Let me make my own decisions in life. You are welcome to your opinion on this matter but please express it by not eating at those places (or at least not those meals) and not by lecturing us on what is right and wrong.
Not only is this promoting gluttony, its a blatant waste of food! How much of these meals are just thrown away after the 'contestant' fails to eat it all in the allotted time! In a world where there are so many starving, this is just rediculous, even if you do get to take it home in a 'doggy bag'!
Obesity no, gluttony yes.
Frankly my friend, 6000 calorie breakfast is not going to be used up as much as you might think. Either way, McDonalds with its super sizing represents much greater risk because you are easily consuming 3 times the amount of calories than a regular healthy meal. May not be 6000, but it adds up over time. Its more dangerous, because its too good to avoid. Most don't care to. People will avoid this, but not McD's
Wow, Fatties.
