A greeting from India

Calgary-based writer Debra Cummings’ story about her trip to Kurseong in Northern India, to help buy a home for orphans, appears in the March/April 2010 issue. Here is an excerpt from “house parent” Cecilia George’s blog, which details how the children are doing in their new home.

“Despite the bad weather and a bad flu, our children wrote their final exams and all of them passed!

"Shanti Lucy had an appendix operation in the Holy Family hospital where she is doing her nursing course. All the children wrote notes to her and sent them along with her brother Nigma.

"Prabina Monica had a bad flu and was hospitalized. She went to the hospital many times for check ups, but [when she wasn’t getting better] I took her to a private doctor who did all the necessary tests, x-rays and blood tests. She was finally diagnosed with tuberculosis. She has to take medicine regularly. Thank you very much for all your help and generosity and because of that I was able to take Prabina Monica to the doctor, do all the needed tests and get her medicine.

"I’m happy to announce that we named our house after the Morning Star, which means hope. I believe our home will be the answer for many needy children and young people who are looking for hope.”

Party on! Congratulations to the women's team. To me, they should have partied in the dressing room, you are role models for the future women's hockey team. Would people think that it's ok for our politicians that represent our country to walk around with a bottle of whiskey or beer well in the public eyes? I think blaming the women that actually played the hockey is wrong. i personally blame the person behind the responsibility of the team. If they don't know any better then maybe they shouldn't be behind the bench and take a better look at what they are representing - a beer commercial or Canada and what it stands for! PARTY ON!
