Last week, I attended a media preview for Stila’s upcoming Holiday 2010 collection (ah, the world of magazines’ rarely do we get to live in the moment; I mean, come on! Holiday? It was 28°C outside that day, plus humidity!) Discordant weather issues aside, one product that really caught my eye was the newest soon-to-be-launched addition to Stila’s Crush Lip & Cheek Stain family’ The shade is called Acai Crush: a rich, velvety berry red.

Never being one to shy away from bright lip colours, I decided to give my preview sample a try the other night. I put it on before bed, intending to slick it on, admire it in my bathroom mirror, and then immediately wipe it back off before hopping into bed. The lipstain, however, had other plans.

After a few clicks to get it started the intensely pigmented gel oozed out from the tip of the brush-pen applicator. It glided on to my lips easily; the brush and smooth texture allow for super-precise application, and the product has just the right length of drying time to get the colour where you want it before it absorbs quickly into the skin.

Now, I should have been warned from the product description touting it as "not simply long lasting, but SUPER long lasting" ‘ After about 2 minutes of wear, I washed my face. None came off. I wiped my lips with a cotton pad doused in waterproof makeup remover. My lips were still as red as when I put it on. So, thinking maybe it would fade overnight, I went to bed. I woke up the next morning and washed my face again. I had a cup of tea. I ate breakfast…. And then I took the picture above.

After all that, the stain hadn’t bled or faded, and my lips still felt soft and comfortable, not sticky or dry at all. This, my friends, is definitely long-lasting’ It took a full 18 hours before it finally started to fade. As a bright lipstick afficianado, I’m in love. I’ll definitely be picking up a few more of these in different colours. Maybe now my boyfriend will let me kiss him on the cheek, despite my brightly coloured lips…
