I love a glass of wine with dinner. I also love the sunshine’and it turns out these two vices of mine could be a good pair. A Spanish study has found that a substance in grapes can help prevent skin damage.

The sun’s UV rays activate a reaction which kills skin cells resulting in sun damage, and even skin cancer. But, researchers at the University of Barcelona and the Spanish National Research Council have found that flavonoids in grapes could prevent the chemical reaction caused by the sun.

The Telegraph also reports that cosmetic companies have expressed an interest in the study’s findings, with the hope that it could be used in the development of skin creams and other skin care products.

Not a fan of wine? Eating grapes offers the same benefits as drinking wine’though neither should be an excuse to skip the SPF.

How do you protect your skin from the sun’s damaging rays?
