Last Thursday evening we were honoured with not one but two P&G Beauty awards. Rhonda Rovan was named Canada’s Best Beauty Editor and an article by Anne Mullens called “The Truth About Parabens” was named Best Beauty Feature. (Rhonda and Anne are pictured above with their awards.)

As the magazine’s editor I feel very proud of Rhonda, who works tirelessly to make sure we are bringing to Canadian women a fresh kind of editorial in our Look Great section. It always includes great new products for looking your best, of course, but on top of that we include articles about how to tone your arms, legs, butt, belly and more, because looking your best is also feeling your best.

And we love to delve into the science of the beauty and skin care products on the market, so that you’ll have the information you need to make wise purchases. The winning story by Anne Mullens (who flew to Toronto from her home in Victoria to accept her award) is a perfect example of that; it’s the kind of article that, to use the judge’s words when the award was given last Thursday, "makes you want to give it to your friends and tell them, ‘You have to read this.’"

It’s great that P&G brought these awards–which were independently judged–to Canada because excellence in beauty and fashion editorial is an area that hasn’t been celebrated much in the past, and there is such a wealth of talent in this country in terms of writers, editors and web editors, bloggers, photographers, models and more.
