In Earth to Table (Random House of Canada), Canadian chefs Jeff Crump and Bettina Schormann provide recipes that use the best of each season, plus profiles of innovative chefs and discussions on foraging and preserving. The book’s subtitle is “Seasonal recipes from an organic farm,” but Crump suggests shopping from local producers as well, rather than buying strictly organic.

You Were Always Mom’s Favorite

I reached for You Were Always Mom’s Favorite! (Random House) because I have two sisters, and I was curious to read what best-selling author Deborah Tannen had to say. She reveals true stories of sisters who grew up together but have very different perceptions of their lives. It also provides tips to help sisters talk more openly. Which reminds me, I must call both of mine!

15 Minute Abs Workout

15 Minute Abs Workout (DK) provides four workouts designed to target the midsection from every angle. The sessions build in intensity from basic to advanced. I liked that the trainer gave clear instructions (no bad music, no smiling background exercisers). With each move, page references in the accompanying book came up on screen, so when I needed help with a particular crunch, I paused the DVD for additional advice.
