How many calories do you really need each day?

Your body needs a certain number of calories per day just to maintain essential body functions. If you go over that needed amount of energy each day and you're not very active, you'll eventually gain weight.

So how many calories should you ingest each day? That depends on your daily level of activity, gender, weight, height, and age. For instance, a 30-year-old woman who is very active needs a higher number of calories per day than a 40-year-old woman who is only moderately active.
