The West Coast Trail, Vancouver Island
Vancouver Island’s West Coast Trail is perhaps the most iconic Canadian hike. This rugged 75-kilometre path weaves through the deserted beach and lush forest of the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve on the western coast of Vancouver Island. The 6-day trek was originally carved out to help shipwreck survivors escape from the wilderness. Today, use it as an escape from your desk job.
Haida Gwaii Beach Walk, Northern B.C.
Camp and hike along one of the most beautiful stretch of beach in the world in Northern B.C.’s Naikoon Provincial Park. Let the gentle waves of the ocean tickle your feet as you make your way along a 100-kilometre route on the northeastern coast of the magnificent Haida Gwaii. Known as the “Galapagos of the North” the Haida Gwaii are a national natural and archeological treasure.
Whistler Mountain Trails, Whistler
Hiking along the trails at Whistler Mountain is a scenic treat. You’ll hike past alpine meadows speckled with wildflowers, stands of western red cedar, sparkling glacial lakes and dramatic views from the top of soaring peaks. Although there are several short routes you can fill your vacation with, the most rewarding of them is the High Note Trail. The route begins at the summit of Whistler Mountain and traverses through pristine alpine meadows. You’ll love the panoramic vistas of the turquoise-hued Cheakamus Lake and Cheakamus Glacier.
Sunshine Meadows, Banff
It won’t require much effort to surround yourself with lush meadows, wildflowers and spectacular views of the surrounding peaks in Banff. The 1.8-kilometre Sunshine Meadows hike combined with the 5-kilometre loop extension from Rock Isle Lake to Grizzly and Larix Lakes is an easy day hike. Enjoy a picnic lunch with views of Mount Assiniboine – known as the Matterhorn of the Canadian Rockies – with still enough time left in the day to hit the spa back at the Fairmont Banff Springs after your hike.
Lake Agnes Teahouse, Lake Louise
You may want to skip wearing your finest tea dress when visiting the Lake Agnes Teahouse. A moderate 6.8-kilometre trek will take you through lush forest towards Lake Agnes where you can enjoy views of a stunning waterfall. Have a sip of tea and some fresh pie at the historic teahouse before continuing your hike to the far end of Lake Agnes. At the top of Big Beehive, you’ll have an amazing view of Bow Valley and Lake Louise.
The Bruce Trail, Ontario
Canada’s longest footpath begins in Southern Ontario’s Niagara Peninsula. It runs 900 kilometres along the Niagara Escarpment before ending at the northern tip of the Bruce Peninsula. Although the trail winds through varied and beautiful landscape, the most dramatic section can be found along the Bruce Peninsula. This section of the trek boasts an amazing landscape where limestone cliffs soar above the turquoise waters of Georgian Bay.
International Appalachian Trail, Quebec
Beginning in the United States, the International Appalachian Trail extends past Maine into Canada. The hike follows the crest of the Appalachian Mountains towards the Gaspé Peninsula. Then, the Quebec section of the trail travels through Parc National de la Gaspésie before outlining the coast of the Gaspé Peninsula. Finally, you’ll end the hike at Forillon National Park. The spectacular views of the St. Lawrence River are definitely a highlight.

The East Coast Trail, Newfoundland and Labrador
Travelling along the East Coast Trail for the most breathtaking views along the scenic shores in Newfoundland and Labrador. This beautiful coastal walk makes its way through towering cliffs and deep fjords. Plus, you’ll hike past impressive icebergs, abandoned settlements, historic sites and lighthouses.
